Mar 29, 2008 1st beer on a 29 bottle blind BW tasting. Poured a clear copper color with an off-white head. Light aged malt. Mild sweetness with raisins and plums. Mild brown sugar notes. the flavor was malty and sweet. Piny hop middle to the finish. Moderate bitterness with some warmth in the throat. Alocohol shows in the nose.

Pours mahogany with a ruby hue, and barely translucent when held to the light.
A humble half-inch head of dense beige stuck around for several minutes, revealing some decent smears of clingy lacework.
Aromatics are a balance of dark fruit, fresh malt, and nougat-like caramel.
Doughy, figgy, and ripe with citrus spritzed juicy malt.
The mouthfeel is chewy, sticky, and tacky. Not too heavy, but substantial for a barleywine.
A firm, drying bitterness leads off the pallet in tandem with spruce-spiked fruit and fresh, clean malt essence.
Alcohol steps forward, but quite mildly and there is no heat.
Finishes with some lingering residuals, bitterness, and caramel malt.
A terrificly balanced and substantial barleywine, albeit a bit sweet and young.
Maybe a couple of years on it’s side in the cellar will help dry her out.

Mar 27, 2008 Thanks to skyview for this. dMassive hops on the nose of this cloudy brown beer. Sweet carmel malt flavor with plenty of hops. A little warm right now so could use some time in a cellar.

Mar 19, 2008 22oz bottle, Vintage 2007. Thanks KP. Medium brown color. Sweet aroma, hints of well balanced Winter Warmer. Hints of new tires. Flavor is sweet. Bitterness in the finish but still flows with residual sweetness.

Mar 17, 2008 Shared at Cleveland tasting 3/15 Bottle: Pours a deep copper color with a light tan head. Aroma, caramel and citrus notes, earthy. Flavor, caramel and brown sugar up front, some earthy citrus notes towards the end. A nice sweetness to it, balancing hops. Good stuff.

Mar 17, 2008 Bottle shared at the Cleveland tasting.Another one I have been hearing much ado about! Would love to try this aged a few years! Pour was a a dark brown and mahogany. Tasted like sugar plum! Alcohol was present and made it quite warm going down.

Mar 14, 2008 Big thanks to Old Mr. Crow for this one. Pours turbid deep brownish ruby with 1-finger khaki head and nice concentric lace rings. For a beer this big, the lace stayed around for a while. The nose was fruity, with strawberry, blueberry, cherry, heavy malt, hops, and some perfumy florals. The palate was rich, hefty, complex, and not hot at all, with flavors of big fruit and berries, heavy caramelly malt, hops, and some late chocolate notes. Not only is this one of the best barleywines I have yet quaffed, but it is one of the best beers as well. An early contender for Doc Lock Beer of the Year status.
