kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Apr 22, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of 5000. Thanks, André! Pours a dark reddish-brown color; creamy khaki head with fine-bubbled lacing. Loads of oily dried fruits, caramel, and candy sugar in the aroma; viscous and generous; slightest hint of alcohol poking through. Full mouthfeel: following the aroma, there’s just tons of viscous dried fruits, boozy leather and fruit leather, toffee and caramel; lots of generous fruitiness and a complex maltiness; just a bit too sweet at this point; it would likely benefit and excel after a few years of age; warming and a touch over the top right now; but tasty. Lengthy finish, showing more dried red fruits, leather, and some breadiness in the finish.
maniac (2022), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle at RBSG2008 Grand Tasting on 08/02/2008. Clear amber body with a small tan head. Big caramel and molassas aroma. Huge caramel and molassas flavor. Full body with moderate carbonation. blankboy (2627), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 24, 2008 Bottle (651ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of jerc & mabel. 2007 vintage. Pours a clear deep ruby with orange hues and a small diminishing creamy tan head. Very nice sweet aroma of toasted malt, brown sugar, hops, toffee and light alcohol. Flavour follows the aroma and is quite tasty. The finish is sweet, bitter and with just the right amount of alcohol. Delicious and oh so easy to drink! Medium bodied. What a fantastic beer! jerc (3217), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 23, 2008 2008-09-17. Deep ruby brown body, modest tan head. (4+) Aroma is surprisingly mild, but has some lovely character to it. Restrained alcohol, dryish caramel malt over sweeter but less prominent base. Very mld touch of sweet raisin/fruit. (7+) Flavour is similar, a bit of warm alcohol weaving its way throughout but is barely noticeable rally. Dry toasty malt, light hoppy bitterness up front. Understated sweet malt support. Smooth medium bodied palate is lightly carbonated. (4+) Really nice. Simple but extremely drinkable, ridiculously so. Yumm! Bottle from Downtown Wine and Spirits, Anchorage HogTownHarry (3286), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 22, 2008 22oz bottle shared by J&K with blankboy, GregClow and me. 2007 vintage. Man oh man this is good stuff. Bright deep clear mahogany pour with a solid lasting creamy beige head. Sweet lightly nutty malt aroma with some soft bitter herbal notes and a little spice and alcohol. The taste - sooo smooth and balanced, roasty brown sugar malt, medium booze, caramel, very soft balancing bitterness - this was completely ready to drink. Lightish body, very sticky mouthfeel (post-drinking lip smacking really showed up the stickiness), only a little boozy even after it warmed up - so damned drinkable. presario (2447), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sep 12, 2008 Bottle from PNW. Mahogany. Light froth. Aroma of alcohol, sweet syrup and spice. A bit of a hop spice burn in the mouth. Alcohol warming but lightens up as you drink. Smooth and thick. Tasty, warm with a good body.
