The aroma is toasty with spicy hops & sweetness, very balanced malt body. The flavor has a creamy malt balance & delicious hops. I don’t know if it’s the mass amoutns of lesser beers before this but it’s incredibly tasty. The finish is toasty, spicy, smooth, delicious! Aubrey (2777), Denver, Colorado, USA

Big maltiness with a hint of toasty-sweet caramel and a bigger hint of dark chocolate cake. Flowery-grassy hops, with quite a bit of bitterness. Pretty good ESB. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 2, 2004 Can you say Cascade? Not very malty, as advertised. Very Cascadian aroma and flavor, a nice example of how to display American hops. Too bad I’m tired of Cascade right now. Quality beer nonetheless. blatz (138), Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Nice copper red color -- similar to the ambet with more orange tinge to it. Head dissipates quickly. Good, but different from what I expect in ESB. Missed the smooth, slight buttery taste that Fullers and Redhook have. Nice spicy hop additions in the nose and finish, but not enough malt to balance it out. Overall very good, but maybe not a true ESB? JoeMcPhee (5010), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2004 Copper-red colour with a pale yellow creamy head. Slight haze. Spicy malty aroma with notes of piny Northwestern hops. Softly carbonated with a simple light malt taste and a pine/fir hop flavour. Medium length bitter finish. Good body and very well-done. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 27, 2004 Nice reddish color, the head was small and didn't last long. Malty smell with a little hops. Nice blend of malty sweet flavor with a good blend of hops over it. Not an extra special beer if you ask me, but ok. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

Nice citric aroma. Decent hopped flavors, yet well malted. Good beer.
