Commercial Description:
Alaskan IPA is honey gold in color with a fruity, citrus aroma. An enticing blend of hops and our dry hopping process, in which hops are added directly to tanks during fermentation, give this brew a very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing hop finish.

2008-09-02. Crisp dark yellow body with a nice creamy off-white head. (3+) . Pleasant hoppy aroma (7+) with a touch of grass and muted citrus that carry over to the flavour. Average palate. Quite drinkable, but on the mild side and I crave more citrus from the hops. 7/4/7/3/14+ - 3.4 On tap at the brewery, Juneau

July 2007. Golden yellow body, small white head. Moderate hoppy aroma, with grassy notes. Flavour has a decent amount of bitterness and light citrusy hops and light grassy notes, though less assertive than I might like. Average palate. Quite quaffable – pleasant. 6-7/3/7/3/14 Bottle courtesy of Mabel’s parents.

This India Pale Ale pours a deep orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is citrusy and floral, very fresh. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity. It seems to be more hop forward than it used to be, but I have no notes and am going from an old memory here. Decent balance. This beer is hoppy without being over the top or over aggressive. Lively carbonation. It’s a touch grassy in the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is dry and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

This draft brew from the Oregon Brewers festival poured a head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a transparent softly carbonated light copper brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The smooth flavor contained notes of mild piney cascade hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

On draft at the Fancy Moose, Anchorage, 7/6/05. Orange-yellow with a thin head. Smoothly sweet and orange-citric. Well balanced and made for every day drinking, but I couldn’t help feeling it was held back from its potential. <<Tried again from a bottle, May 07 and was further underimpressed ... particularly with the lack of any flavor.>>

Another from Skyview. Gold color with a medium head. Floral hop aroma. Very plain flavor that has just a bit of sweetness and a bit of bitterness. Certainly not bad, but not really good either.

12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy deep gold with a thin lasting head and very nice lace. Aroma is grassy nutty earthy minty, english and tea-like hops, and light citrus. Flavor is clean, some grass, light herbs, mint, tea, toast, cracker with a crisp finish- light on the hops and bittering. Average at best. Seems too old school-like. Gotta get with the times and step up the hops even for a regular IPA.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a large lasting white head. Aromas of earthiness, light pine, light grapefruit and a hint of carmel. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of earthiness, light pine and a hint of carmel with a crisp lightly bitter finish.
WHERES THE HOPS!

Bottle (22oz). Pours a clear yellow-orange with an average size diminishing foamy white head. Very mild aroma of resiny hops and sweet malt -- not much else really, it’s a little dull. Flavour, also mild, of resiny hops and some fruit. Average bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. It’s alright but it is a bit dull, simple and overly mild. Maybe it’s unfair to compare but there’s so many great American IPAs out there to compare it against and this one just doesn’t cut it for me.
