Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Top notch smoked porter, very famous for a reason... Black with a nice head, ok retention... Aroma is smoky, peaty, much like a campfire in smell and taste... Much more smoke than the Stone Smoked Porter, i like this better... Smoke makes beer better...

(2004 version) Deep, dark brown with a molasses underpinning. Nice smokiness jumps off the glasss. Redolent of sweet, Southern smokhouse with a roasty backdrop. Dominant smokey flavor. A hearty winter brew fit for cold nights and enjoying the outdoors or Alaskan wilderness.

2008 Bottle. Pours a coffee brown with a lighter brown head. Nose is full of smoky malt. Flavors are nice mild hickory smoke. Notes of cola too. Nicely carbonated.

enjoyed during the opening round of March Madness ’09. Deep dark brown body with a fluffy tan head and small web-like lacing, looks fantastic. Huge, agressive aroma of smoked, salted pork and campfire. Scents of crackers and tobacco add some depth. Malty and smokey with a light sweetness on the tongue. Medium to heavy bodied. Generous flavors of burnt wood, earthy peat and smoked meat. A bitter hop flavor comes forward and gives way to a mild chocolate aftertaste. I love a big smokey beer and this was better than I imagined it would be. Surprisingly drinkable for the style as well. Paired rather nicely with a slice of cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries."

From a bomber. Beer is very dark brown, clear. Head is initially largish, light brown, frothy. Diminishes mostly into a fluffy ring with a small centralized petri dish skim. The aroma is malty with heavy notes of roasted grain, lighter notes of dark coffee; Moderate notes of salty smoky meat and campfire. The flavor is moderately bitter, lightly acidic, trace sweet with a long, lightly/moderately bitter finish. Genuine camp fire retronasal aroma is pleasing. The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is average/fluffy. Enjoyable, plotting on trying this out in the chili later.

22oz. Rather dark brown almost black pour. Not a huge dark cream colored head. It did last a while though. Roasty malt, peat some bitter chocolate aromas. Tastes quite similarly. Earthy, peaty malt with quite a bit of coffee and smoke. Some hints of chocolate throughout. Medium bodied lively enough to not be creamy. The bittering is what sets this apart from just an average or good porter. Nice roast finish. Drinkability is pretty good, the bite takes away from this just a bit. Worth trying.

22oz bottle. Pours dusky brown with a long lasting tan head that leaves a nice ring of foam that sticks around for the duration. Very smokey nose, with some pine needles, oak and caramel. Flavor up front is quite roasty with a smooth full body and very nice mouthfeel. Finishes with a wood smoked bacon note. This is incredibly tasty, one of the best if not the best smoked beer I’ve had.
