Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

From a bomber. Beer is very dark brown, clear. Head is initially largish, light brown, frothy. Diminishes mostly into a fluffy ring with a small centralized petri dish skim. The aroma is malty with heavy notes of roasted grain, lighter notes of dark coffee; Moderate notes of salty smoky meat and campfire. The flavor is moderately bitter, lightly acidic, trace sweet with a long, lightly/moderately bitter finish. Genuine camp fire retronasal aroma is pleasing. The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is average/fluffy. Enjoyable, plotting on trying this out in the chili later.

22oz. Rather dark brown almost black pour. Not a huge dark cream colored head. It did last a while though. Roasty malt, peat some bitter chocolate aromas. Tastes quite similarly. Earthy, peaty malt with quite a bit of coffee and smoke. Some hints of chocolate throughout. Medium bodied lively enough to not be creamy. The bittering is what sets this apart from just an average or good porter. Nice roast finish. Drinkability is pretty good, the bite takes away from this just a bit. Worth trying.

22oz bottle. Pours dusky brown with a long lasting tan head that leaves a nice ring of foam that sticks around for the duration. Very smokey nose, with some pine needles, oak and caramel. Flavor up front is quite roasty with a smooth full body and very nice mouthfeel. Finishes with a wood smoked bacon note. This is incredibly tasty, one of the best if not the best smoked beer I’ve had.

2006 651 ML Bottle. Pours a black color with a decent tan head that lasts. Taste is of smoke, wood, caramel, roasted malt and chocolate. Similar enough aroma. Very tasty, easy to drink and overall enjoyable.

First off I am not a smoked fan, so my rating might be skewed. This beer confirmed my general dislike of the stly, even If I could appreciate it’s well balanced nature. Lots of smoke on this one and I struggled to finish the half pint. Wouldn’t go back for more of this.

Relatively light smoking, but very big malt with coffee and chocolate and a bit of fruit. Great palate, intensely smooth. Very well balanced and impressive.

2008 "vintage" 22oz bottle. Pours a basically black body with a thin, khaki brown head that leaves a petri dish, chunk lacing on the surface and a soft, but thick lace on the glass. The lacing actually expands on the surface when I touch the glass...pretty cool reaction. Aroma is big meaty smoked malts. A light amount of porter-like chocolates and roasts, but mainly a smokey campfire aroma. Flavor is very solid. Lots of initial smokiness with a big body. Light, but balancing amounts of milk chocolate and roasted grains come in before a slow, dry, woody finish. Some hops creep their way into the finish as well, but mainly a big, but not too big smoke finish. Really nice. Never gets overpowering. Palate is full with a light tickle of carbonation. Overall, a very impressive smoked porter. Great balance between a big campfire and milk chocolate porter-like taste.
