A deep brown pour with the brown thick head. Flavor is rich, smoky with coffee and chocolate. Not a one dimensional brew, roasty, smoky, portery, great. Travlr (787), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2008 Dark maroon with thin white head. Aroma of subtle campfire. Rich smoke throughout, especially in the finish, but it hides the porter to a degree. Still a nice one. RedSox2004 (360), Pacific Palisades, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2008 On tap at Fathers Office Culver City. One finger head above a deep brown, almost black body. Good retention and very nice lacing. Chocolate aromas are detected behind the smokiness that was like sitting in front of a burning log in a fireplace. The smoke was even stronger on the palate, like biting into that log after the fire has gone out. But in a good way, really. Roasted coffee and coca are the strongest flavors. Medium body, pleasant malty aftertaste that lingered. nightrider (383), encinitas, California, USA

Very smoky flavors with a mild hop accent. Medium body with a decent finish. Not a bad beer. CheersMate1 (858), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Off white tan head. Very dark black in color. Nice looking beer. This beer has a nice smoke/chocolate/ and coffee aroma. The beer smells excellent. I am getting more of the chocolate and sweet malt aroma. Nice chocolate and ash taste. Ah, the smoke is extremely nice. There is some chocolate, coffee, and sweet malt taste. I appreciate the the smoke more than anything. A great porter, but to call it a smoke is a bit misleading. This misses out on the clear focus of smoke/leather/ and ash. I love this as a porter, but a smoked porter, it is fairly good, but not the best. Juelze (920), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is of beef summer sausage, some smoke, chocolate malt. Taste is rich chocolate malt, smoke and light wood notes. Palate is full bodied with a creamy finish. Very good stuff and a most excellent smoked! Petrucci914 (599), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

Pours a pitch black with a medium mocha head that fades to a thin ring. Aroma is meaty, summer sausage, fired wood, and smoky ash. Taste is very creamy and silky smooth. There is no harsh or bitter finish at all, but remains consistent throughout. Taste is chocolate, maybe a bit of coffee, burnt wood, and ash. This rocks hard! TheJollyOne (204), Kofu, Japan
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Poured a deep black with very little head. Amazing nose of smoked hickory and sweet malts. Burnt chocolate taste, with a wood smoke presence, nice bitter roast ending. Thick on the palate, with a touch of fizz rather than cream. Amzing smell, wish the taste held up a bit better, still great.
