Quite what I was expecting, though I was surprised by how close it tasted to a Schlenkerla, the standard for me in Rauchbier. Flat black in the glass, smells of roast ham. Flavor is even smoke, char and meat. Porter is not distinguishable. nearbeer (1842), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Opaque black with a small lasting disc of cream that leaves delicate frosting behind. Aroma is alder smoke, salt and coffee. Piquant smoke, salty coffee, and char flavors are buttressed by just enough caramel and marshmallow to keep it from being a roasted and smoked malt onslaught. Medium-heavy body is sorta smooth, but has some flareups. Tingly and dry finish. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2008 Pours a near black color with a small creamy tan head that lasts and laces nicely. Aroma is very smoky, with coffee and roasted malt and grain. Smoke does not come through in the flavor so much. Lots of the roasted grain, coffee and chocolate present. Not a bad porter. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. a nearly black beer with a small and disappearing light brown head. The aroma is nicely smokey, though the other aromas are well integrated. Some coffee and caramel. Moderately sweet flavour, light acidity and a smokiness that is not overwhelming. Medioum body, lively carbonation, quite long finish, with almost medium bitterness. Nearly at the same level of Stone Smoked Porter, that maybe is smoother than this and less smokey.
