Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

2007 Vintage Pours a very dark brown in color. There are ruby highlights around the edges. Smell is smoky, dominating the underlying malt. This is more smoke-forward than I imagined it would be. Almost has to be paired with food while drinking. A little thin on the mouthfeel. For a smoked beer, this is very well done. Would like to have some cheese and sausage to eat while drinking.

Pours deep reddish brown with weak foam. The aroma is not smoky, but is reminds me of molasass. Flavor is rich and complex enough to overcome the slightly apple cider character. The body is fuller like a stout. This might benefit from aging.

2007 - This is one of my all time favorite beers ans an exemplary take on the style, that all others should be guided by. Pours a wonderful oily dark brown with some ruby highlights. Not overwhelmingly smokey this time around as I remember it being more prominent in past vintages. Nice two finger tan head. Rich and malty, with some cocoa like dustiness. Very drinkable.

Nice thick black color with tan foamy head. Smoked sausage smell - more smokey than I imagined it would be. Somewhat of a smoked flavor - nothing to knock you over with - but decent. Tastes smokey with a sweet malty finish - nothing too amazing here. Palate is very thin however. Overall, pretty decent - just didn’t blow my mind.

2006 bottle, Deep black colour, little to no head. Smokey aroma (perhaps a little obvious!) with a slight sour aroma also. It has a slight smoke flavour with a bitter bite to it and a short smokey finish, nice!

2007 bottle, consumed 01/11/08. Pours a dark, dark brown. A little coaxing brought a tan head into being which lingered on as a foam skin for some time. Smoky aroma. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with... surprise! a pronounced smoke flavor. Luckily, there’s more to this one. A fleeting malty sweetness and a long, bitter chocolate finish challenge the smoke and, while losing, put up a good fight. I like it, but it’s a bit too smoky for me to have more than once a year or so.

Bottle of the 2007. Nice balanced smoke flavors up against a rich roasted malt background. One of the best smoked I have had.

Pours a nice dark black. Nice smoky bacon and sweet malt on the nose. Great creamy lightly carbonated mouthfeel witht the nice smoky bacon, chocolate, and sweet malt.
