Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Bottle of the 2007. Nice balanced smoke flavors up against a rich roasted malt background. One of the best smoked I have had.

Pours a nice dark black. Nice smoky bacon and sweet malt on the nose. Great creamy lightly carbonated mouthfeel witht the nice smoky bacon, chocolate, and sweet malt.

Nice black pour with an average sized light tan head. Smell is lightly to moderately smoky, and for a short while, almost smoked fish like, for some reason... Thinnish body and more so than I expected. Some light char flavor and a smokier flavor than smell. Nice but not as great as I expected. Have another bottle to sample and will see what I think of it then as well.

2006 Vintage:

1/08/2008: As soon as the cap is popped off, a deep, meaty smoke and char rolls out of the bottle. The flavor starts dry with chocolate, caramelized and roasted malts and then the smokiness and a hint of sweetness comes through. The smoke has a light meatiness to it as well and lingers on the palate and hangs in the back of the throat. Alaskan Smoked Porter 2006 is dark brown (cola/coffee-colored) and clear. There really isn’t any lasting head or crown and the carbonation is fine and smooth. It has a medium body and goes down easily. As the beer warms, a lasting, creamy tan head forms, it becomes more rich, a dark chocolate flavor becomes noticeable, the smoke and char deepens, the body fills out more, and it seems more creamy on the palate. Overall, this beer has a nice level of smokiness and is quite balanced and robust. Now I am eager to try this beer with 4-5 years of age on it as I was actually hopeing for somehting a bit more from this beer...

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle (6.5% Alcohol by Volume) from bitbucket and Yonkers65. Thanks Bob and Bruce! I appreciate it. Rating #610 for this beer...

This beer ages like a wine, smooth and rich in flavor after being on the shelf about 5 years or more. The oldest I have tasted was a 2001 and was potent and delicious!

2007 bomber: Very dark, opaque, with a coffee-colored head. Smells like a campfire (heavily smoked). Bitter and creamy palate. Flavor is tremendously smoky--really heavy with wood and bacon flavors. I feel like I’m camping in Alaska :)

Bottle from whole foods in san fran. Bordeline black pour, with a very thin head that dissipates almost immediately. The appearance isn’t all that impressive, but what follows makes up for it. Abundant smoky campfire aromas, and a smooth smoked chocolate flavour. Weird, but fantastic.
