Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Notes for the 2006 version. 22oz bomber. I don’t rightly remember when I had this. Deep deep brown with a 1/2 finger tan head fading to a ring. A 1/2 finger head does rouse for a minute or so. I smell campfire, wood, and some caramel. There is also some light dry roasted malts. Flavor adds some light molasses. There is still amount of campfire and ash, moderate to high roasted malts. The finish is dry and has zero sweetness. Bitterness peaks at a 2-3 on a -10 scale. Light to moderate slightly prickly carbonation with a medium body.

22oz bomber. Pours a deep dark brown with small tan head. Smells very smokey and almost has a mesquite flavor to it with a dry finish. Pretty good beer and probably the best beer i have had from Alaskan Brewing Co.

22oz bomber courtesy of theisti. Pours black with a hint of garnet highlights at the edges and a creamy tan head. The aroma is of a smokehouse: beef brisket and smoked ham with a light ash at the finish and sweet dark roasted malt in the background. Medium-bodied and slick with fine carbonation, it finishes with a very dry, roasted finish. The flavor is of sweet roasted malt with smoked beef brisket and peat notes coming at the swallow. Light coffee notes add to the mix, making you wonder whether this is a porter or a smoked. Quite dry in the aftertaste with a lingering smoke/peat, this is an exceptionally well balanced and well crafted beer. This would be fantastic paired with a lot of foods. I tried it with a smoked Gouda, and I think I saw God. Thanks again, Tim. You are the man.

Well, to be honest, I am not a big fan of smoked beers. I had heard this one was good so I picked it up. Poured an opaque black into the glass. Aroma was HUGE smoke, just like your clothes after a week of camping. Taste was huge smoke as well, with big roasty backbone and finishing up on a sweeter note. This was quite good, if I was a fan of smoked beers I would be all over this.
