Beer pours almost black with a bubbly white head that goes away quickly. Flavor is a little smoke first, some roasty maltiness, some sweetness, a little crisp hoppiness, and then lots of smokey flavor that really lingers. The smoky flavor coasts the mouth as the hoppy presences comes and goes. I liked this one so much that I was pretty much done with the bomber in 5 minutes. It was pleasantly drinkable and extremely amazing. Maria (6318), Thisted, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2007 Courtesy of Tom/After4ever - thank you so much! It’s a black porter with a moderate, but creamy head. The aroma is smoky and so is the flavour, that is smooth, well rounded and has notes of licorice. In the finish I find a light bitterness and the smoke is closing the ball, just as it opened it! Nice, and if you are really into smoke, it must be fantastic. 2024 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2007 Interesting brew. Pours out a deep brown almost black color with a small off white head. aroma was smokey and very malty. flavor was kind of smokey, but not like an ash tray, with malts, fruits. Suprised at how nice it tasted. Smoked beers are not my thing. harrisoni (6830), Ashford, Kent, England

Very dark brown/black colour with thin beige head. Dark roasted oily malt aroma. Some smokiness, touch of bacon. Chewy, tarry, toffee. Lovely. Hint of black cherry, black berry on palate. Very good, nice intensity and drinkable. Been looking for it for years and it didn’t let me down. Finished the bottle after everyone else had tasted it. hapjydeuce (773), Del Mar, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 13, 2007 good smoky and earthy aroma, black in the middle with light brown edges, little carbonation. the flavor was not good by any means, maybe its just my palate, but I prefer a big imperial stout over this stuff anyday. wont buy it again, thats for sure. jarspag (600), Los Angeles, California, USA

Thanks to hezron for following one excellent beer with another. This was a bottle that he had been hanging on to for a while - the bottle said it was a 2004 vintage. If the other Alaskan beers are anything like this someone up there is doing an excellent job.
Aroma / Appearance - Smoked hickory chips begin an intoxicating aroma which also contains coffee, slow roasted barbequed meat and peppermint extract. While not very dense it invites further reflection. The body was about as dark as you would expect from a porter with no head.
Flavor / Palate - Smoky ham, onions, tomatoes and pepperoni remind me of a Papa Murphy’s take and bake pizza (due to the lack of greasiness). I could almost imagine it being the seconds eaten for breakfast the next day due to the coffee taste that follows. While it does not stick to the throat it has enough body to make itself known. The finish is a midafternoon snack of licorice, plums and blueberries. The smoke comes through strongest in the finish though it does not overwhelm the senses.
