Commercial Description:
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

[Vintage 2003] A black beer with a chocolate brown collapsing head. The aroma is smoked yet sweet with notes of tar and blubber. The flavor is sour malty with notes of wood and only slightly smoked. But the alcohol runs over the tongue even though the mouthfeel is thin yet soft.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours opaque black with a small, off-white head. Malty, roasted nose with a whiff of smoke. Medium body with marked, hard roasted accents. A light, underlying tartness. A bitterness in the finish mainly originating in the malt. 240206

Bottled, thanks rauchbier! Near black. Smokey licorice aroma. Firm and rounded, but a bit clean. Intricate mix of burnt malt with smoke. Salty finish.

Bottle (2002). Smoked flavour, not surprisingly. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Roasted, creamy aftertaste.

Bottled (should have been rating #2000, but due to miscalculation at SBWF, it became #1999). Dark brown opaque colour, minor brown head, which quickly disappear into random brownish floating bubbles. Aroma is leather, roast, malts with a slight hoppy edge. Flavour is roasted malts, smoked wood and some hops balancing up the finish. Quite sticky palate. Aftertaste is pleasant roasted malts.

Name: Smoked Vertical 00-07
Date: November 17, 2007
Mode: Bottle
Source: Tasting, Throwdown 3
Aroma: 00 still has a strongest smoked aroma with it fading towards newer years, 01 is second for smoke and the rest are pretty equal
Body: 07 is sweet chocolate flavor, as years get earlier the smoke picks up, body starts to thin around 02, chocolate starts getting rich at 04 and grows towards recent years, 06 and 07 have a dark caramel sweetness to bring out the chocolate, 07 smoke is more of a bitter character than a smokey one
Overall: gradually being dumbed down as the years progress to appeal to the masses while young

Vintage: 1998
Appearance: black, frothy tan head
Aroma: strong smokey aroma
Body: medium body
Flavor: rjch malt flavor, hint of sweetness, lots of smokey character, lingering smokeyness that has slight bitter undertones, the rich porter is not lost with the strong smokey character - especially after it warms a bit and the smoke subsides

Date: February 15, 2004
Vintage: 1998
still verry smokey aroma, much more so than later years in the vertical, a bit thin, lots of roasted and smoked character,

Date: December 10, 2005

Vintage: 1998
still lots of smoke in the aroma, way stronger than the 05, thin and oxidized, disapointing after the big aroma,
