| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2009 From a bomber. Beer is very dark brown, clear. Head is initially largish, light brown, frothy. Diminishes mostly into a fluffy ring with a small centralized petri dish skim.
The aroma is malty with heavy notes of roasted grain, lighter notes of dark coffee; Moderate notes of salty smoky meat and campfire.
The flavor is moderately bitter, lightly acidic, trace sweet with a long, lightly/moderately bitter finish. Genuine camp fire retronasal aroma is pleasing.
The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is average/fluffy.
Enjoyable, plotting on trying this out in the chili later.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Bottle at home, 17th Aug 09, shared with BeerTart. Near black with a small tan head. Delicate smoky aroma with liquorice and carbolic soap hints. In the mouth, luxuriously smooth with a slight creaminess and then a fine drying finish. Flavour of woodmsmoke, coffee, dark malt. A case of this being a very good porter, that has smokiness layered through it, rather than a smoky beer that happens to be a porter. I can certainly see why it scores so highly. elihapa (1071), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Bomber, $5.99. First of all, this has got to be one of the most attractive and elegant labels of any bottle I’ve seen. So point for that! Pours dark brown, with a creamy, fine head. Aroma is roasts, dark chocolate, and ashy smoke. Balanced nose overall, nothing jumps out at you. Palate is smooth, lightly carbonated, sporting a lighter-than-expected body. Flavor starts with a hit of chocolate malt, layered nicely with roasts. Espresso and smoke notes are present through the middle, leading into a bittersweet finish. Overall, nothing to dramatic going on here, but a lot of nice flavors as well. Reminds me of Stone’s version but just a bit smoother and less bitter. Very good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2009 A typical porter by appearance. Tons of campfire ash smoke in both aroma and flavor. That smoke was way overdone. A lesser dose would have made this a better beer. A bit of a disappointment. mastabass666 (96), California, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 10, 2009 2009 bottle. Deep mahogany pour with ruby highlights and a small white head. The aroma has a really nice balance of smoke, cocoa, herbs and spices and brown sugar. The flavor is also excellently balanced subtle smoke, cocoa, and a touch of spice. Body is creamy, full with soft carbonation. brenn79 (217), Idaho, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 8, 2009 2009 vintage 22 oz. bottle- Pours charcoal black with a perfect head and excellent lacing. The flavor is smoky and malty, this beer is so much better than Stone smoked porter, which is crazy because I think Stone is a much better brewery. This is an almost perfect Porter, the aroma is the only weak point.
