Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Oct 25, 2009 12oz., bottling date 9-19-09. Roasty, sweet aroma, some burnt sugar and dark caramel combined with lighter notes of vanilla, chocolate, licorice, smoke and a faint oatmeal tang. Black in color with dark brown highlights and a fine, lasting, tan head. Flavor is full of semi-sweet chocolate, toasted and lightly burnt grain, with coffee, faint tartness and prune, finishing dry with a quick dash of bitterness and lingering cocoa. Mouthfeel is smooth, moderately carbonated and very lightly coating, body is medium. Not bad at all. ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2009 2009 Bottle - Pours thin and almost black with a medium tan head...aroma is roasty and dry, dry malt and a bit of burnt grain...flavour is similar, dry coffee and cocoa, slightly sweet malt and lingering char bitterness...average... glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 6, 2009 12oz bottle. Beautiful, light ABV stout with medium roast. Chocolate, espresso and nicely balanced. Just a bit of sweetness. Perfectly made with robust flavors for a light stout. Really enjoyabe. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 5, 2009 12oz bottle, purchased at Booze Bros. Pours a dark, chocolate-brown color; thin, medium-brown head with decent lacing. In both the nose and the mouth, there’s an overt, milky vanilla note that really pervades all of this. Lots of sweet vanilla, milk chocolate and very little in the way of lactic tartness in the aroma; just dense chocolate and vanilla, creamy, with a hint of roast. Medium mouthfeel: again, lots of creamy vanilla (almost seems syrupy); nicely roasted, plenty of chocolate, and a slightly sharp level of carbonation for what I’d like to see here; still, drinkable, interesting vanilla presence, fluffy and generous at its core; the carbonation’s a bit off-putting. Lengthy, generous finish of roasted malts, chocolate, and vanilla. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 2, 2009 This black ale poured with a rich tan head and a smoky chocolate aroma. There is a good flavor that consists of smoked malt, light chocolate and decaf coffee, with a creamy oat texture. It’s a good try on the blend, but the flavor misses the mark slightly. Still, a pretty good stout. notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours nearly black, with a thin tan lace - aroma of oats, chocolate, roast, vanilla - creamy mouthfeel - mild acidity and black malt bitterness - a touch of tartness - cream sweetness comes through after that, but doesn’t stick around long, as coffee bitterness, roast, and an ashy quality arrive shortly after that - lingering dry roasty character in the finish - fairly one-dimensional, but nice enough. Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 23, 2009 Bottle from Scrizz, thanks. Pours a good cola like with a deminishing tan head. Laces well. Has a good aroma of malts, I get caramel, some chocolate, and hints of vanilla. Has a light carbonation. The flavor is decent. A little smokey but robust with stout flavors. Has a watery texture. A medium body. A good finish with a nice aftertaste. Not as hearty as some but good. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 22, 2009 I was about halfway done with this review when i kicked the beer over. What was it doing on the floor in the first place?? Who knows... Anyways, from the first third, which im assuming the rest of the beer probably was like- pitch black, not lumpy at all. Heavy, steady and quick down the hatch. Aroma was smokey. Not bbq and not campfire but borderline sausage. Semi sweet, i can see the oatmeal and the cocoa coming through midway. Damn this was awesome. I love those alaskan beers, too bad when i finally get one im spilling it all over the living room.
