| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 8, 2006 Pours a watery black with a splash of tan head that vanishes before your very eyes. Nose is watery and mildy roasty. Flavor really tastes more like a porter to me. Very thin overall. Not a bad beer just kind of boring. HogTownHarry (4020), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 2, 2006 Bottle (12oz). from blankboy. Poured slighly fizzy murky dark brown-black with an average fizzy-creamy light brown head. Deep roasty coffee and dark chocolate malt aroma, plenty of hops, and some sweet cola notes too. Taste is quite lactic - like a coca cola float - with enough hops and strong coffee bitterness to balance -not bad, but a little thin, some lemony sourness develops. Mouthfeel is quite lively, a little light bodied, yet still creamy. A decent, if light, and lemony stout. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA

Pours a thinnish black in color with ttle head. Mild aroma of roasted malts and licorice. Sweet and hoppy flavors intermingle on the tongue. Lots of burnt licorice and roasty caramel flavors. Pretty nice. JFGrind (1353), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2006 Alaskan Stout is sweeter than a typical oatmeal stout. Chocolate, licorice evident in body and aroma. Low bitterness lets the sweetness shine though this black stout. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA

Semisweet chocolate and a mild roastiness in the aroma. Overarching roast malt character envelopes sweet and semisweet chocolate, some chalkiness, and hints of lactic sweetness. Residual sweetness and some coffee astringency in the finish. Mouthfeel is light medium, rather smooth. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Maybe the photo on the left needs to be updated, but my bottle had a green label that claimed to be an oatmeal stout. Anyway, this was a nice little beer. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a slight head. Aroma is oaty and chocolate. The taste was very smooth. Roasted malts, oats, and chocoloate dominate, but there is a coffee bite near the end. A bit thin, but a very good beer. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 12, 2006 This beer is a black color with perhaps some brown highlights to it. As I was pouring it I could see the it was a brilliantly clear deep brown color. The head is initially a bit more than one-finger thick and is a light brown color. The aroma at first hits you with a roasted bitterness similar to a rich black coffee, it then begins to pick up some sweeter malt notes of chocolate and something reminiscent of candied malt balls. There is a definite acidic component to the roast character as well, perhaps a bit like an espresso.
The body of this beer is a incongruent mix of lightness mixed with a slight, oily mouthfeel contributed by the oats. The taste is of course dominated by roasted notes, which contribute both a significant acidity as well as burnt grain notes reminiscent of the darkest roast coffees. The beer’s finish has an astringent grainy, burnt grain-husk note to it that is typical of many American Stouts. This beer certainly has lots of flavor especially given how light it feels on the palate. The burnt/ roast flavors and the acidity tend to linger on the tongue long after the beer has left my mouth.
This stout definitely seems to need a bit more malt and body to it. The roast character is just a bit too strong. Having said that, this definitely appeals to the side of me that likes a thick, black, strong cup of joe in the morning. The Oats add just a touch of body to this brew, which certainly helps out.
