Tastes similar to the smells with a light bitter finish. There’s something about the body that threw me off a little (fizzy and oily). whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 27, 2004 Golden tan head and opaque black body with a brown tone. Milk chocolate nose. Flavor of rum raisins, berries, medium sweet chocolate, and mild bitter coffee. Odd fruity sourness in the finish. This is a raisiny stout that could work as a dessert beer, but lacks character otherwise. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2004 Pours black with a thin tan head. Medium roasted malt aroma, some chocolate. Fairly thin body. Light chocolate and roast flavor. Quaffable but again, pretty thin all around. JoeMcPhee (5056), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 25, 2004 Pitch-black and completely opaque with a light tan-coloured fairly thin head. Thin coffee/espresso aroma and fairly thin bodied as well. Coffee and cola flavour along with fainter flavours of molasses. Fizzy carbonation which I don’t like in a stout. Not bad, but I was somewhat disappointed. Alcohol flavour sneaks in at the end. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 17, 2004 Disappointing. Started off well with opaque black body and fast disappearing tan head. Aroma was bitter coffee and chocolate. Promising. The flavor was off, though. Too much fizziness in the mouth and noting impressive in the flavor. Not the stout for this stout lover. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 26, 2004 Smells like espresso, burnt sugar and brandy. Good body, tastes of chocolate, smoke, and milk. Has a finish that is a bit pale, like old wood smell BierBauch (655), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 22, 2004 12oz Bottle Date coded Black with a very thin creamy film on top. Aroma is sweet and slightly metallic. Some cookies, chocolate and oats provide attractive notes. Body is low on carbonation, smooth, creamy and medium to full bodied. Flavor is sweet and delicious. Slightly lactic, sweet roasty and a tad bitter in the finish. Nice malt blend on this one. Thanks Slob. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2004 Appearance: motor oil black, with a thick, cocoa-tan head, looking like a liquid oatmeal cookie, fluffy, creamy, oh-so-inviting.
Aroma: creamy and light, with minor espresso notes, chocolate, lively and warm, opening up as go, more flavors opening up, anise, brown sugar, molasses, all contributing to a tasty, toasty nose.
Taste: Full-bodied, massively textured, continuously flavorful, chewy and chocolatey, with a touch of ash. (Sure it's not Alaskan Smoked Stout?)
Very nice, very good. I could get used to this one.
I'm partial to this style, and this version grabbed me the right way.
