Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Draft at Pizza Port, Carlsbad. A light golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of fruit, peaches, and oranges, as well as notes of vitamin pills. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of peaches and citrus, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is thin. Boring.

Found this one bottled at the Liquor Depot in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Clear, bubbly dark yellow pour with a thin, quickly dissipating white head, slightly sweet with some apricot and apple, and a nice balanced finish. Good.

Light citrus and spice with a touch of light pumpkin. While nice I don’t know if I could tell it apart from any other Summer Ale.

Bottle. Pours a nice golden color with a small white head that lingers for a long time. I like the label. Has a nice hoppy/malt taste, that is also kind of sweet and bitter. Feels really good on the tongue. Overall, this is a pretty tasty and easy to drink beer that doesn’t cost much.

~Pours a very light golden yellow color with small diminishing white head. ~Sweet honey and malt scent. ~Light sweet honey like flavor with some dusty hop bitterness. Light spiciness. ~Light feel, light bitter aftertaste. ~Very easy to drink. Taste a bit watered down. Pretty boring. I wouldn’t turn it down if offered, but I won’t buy it again.

Bottle. Pours a sunshine gold color with a very thin white head. There is citrus in the faint aroma. The citrus is repeated in the flavor with a nice hops/malt balance. Good brew, but I prefer a bit more character in my beer. Good beer for a hot summer day.

6/14/08 On draught at the Washington Brewers Festival. Aroma is all sweet malt with a cornlike pils quality and a light noble hop background. Appearance is clear yellow with a medium white head. Flavor is sweet/sour malt forward with medium noble hop bittering and light fruitiness. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carb texture and a slightly resiny finish. Overall, very easy drinking and demonstrates a suprising amount of classic European character.
