Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

12oz bottle. Gold color with a big, brilliant white head. Light aroma with fruity pear and spicy hops. The flavor has a nice clean malt body with light fruitiness and low bitterness, though enough hop balance to make it interesting. Pretty refreshing, but the fruitiness is a little much after the aroma belies a cleaner taste.

ON tap; seeing what style it is classified as, it makes a bit more sense. Still this was pretty poor. Aroma was ok, but really light; watery if an aroma can be that. Flavor was dry and grainy; a bit plain. Not much hopping and flavor. Below average for the style for me.

i love this beer. it goes down quite easy and the crisp, citrus taste goes well with the lagerish body. Kolsch’s are interesting indeed.

Bottle sampled at Alan’s initiation, thanks Dogbrick: This is just not my cup of tea. Very pale pour, aroma is very faint traces of esters and grass. Light-bodied, slightly funky, yeasty. I could see drinking this very cold on a hot day. Not terrible, but not a sipper.

Pours a light straw color with no head or lacing. Aroma is lacking but a light estery component. Flavor is light malt no bitterness. A nice summer but nothing big on flavor. Body is fairly light.

Bottle. Pours a dark gold with one finger white head. Nose is light grassy hops, sweet malt and banana. Palate is sweet malt, spice and light hops. Medium mouth feel with zero lacing. Ok beer.

Bottle. Looked good in the glass, a golden orange with a thick head that faded away in a couple minutes. Taste was a little muted, a little bready, a little yeasty, a little hops, maybe some honey in the background, and do I taste a little off-metallic flavor? Not very crisp. Nothing really wrong, but there’s a lot of better thirst quenching summer beers out there.
