Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Alaskan Summer Ale is a crystal-clear golden ale, highly sparkling with a white head that vanishes and leaves pretty good lacing. It has a grainy aroma that is fruity and grassy. It has a big, smooth body with a champagne texture. The finish is clean and slick. What a smooth taste! this is something you could get your dad to drink. It’s lightly bitter, with a simple grainy taste. There is a hint of fruit to it. Excellent session ale. It’s like if you took a macro, removed the adjuncts and added much more malted barley. Nice! A summer ale without gimmicks!

This was a dissapointment. There was little aroma but a good amount of flavor. So it was just so-so. I thought it would be better coming from Alaskan.

This draft brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a transparent softly carbonated light yellow-orange colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malt hop. The crisp mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a bubbly malty aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of malt and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. Very crisp and refreshing. Especially considering that we were watching the Pacific Ocean from the Chinnok Winds restaurant. What a wonderful view!

Tasted 7/20/2007. 12oz bottle. Clear and golden hued. Minimal head. Cereal aromas. Touch of bananas. Wheaty grainy flavor. Really smooth and easy yet with a medium bodied palate. Fruity and citrus undertones. Yeasty bubblegummy flavors. Nice lager characteristics. Citrus and mildly creamy. Mildly off-dry finish. Wish I had more.

From a 12oz Bottle. Pours a transparent pale golden color with restrained shades of amber and a healthy layer of foamy white head. A pale doughy malt nose is accompanied by a hint of fruitiness and herbal hops. Light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel. A light cracker maltiness is accompanied by a gentle floral hoppiness. Trace DMS noted. Simple and refreshing, although a cleaner, less corny flavor would make it more so.

new rating:
pours clear yellow-orange with a small white head.
smell was faint, grain, some malt.
taste is of grain, some citrus, some malt.
the old rating had on an alaska air flight and that may be the reason for the lower score.

12oz bottle included in a trade with irishboy!! Thanks!! - pours amber with a short white head that stays around pretty well and laces the sides of the glass. Aromas of slight floral hops over crisp grains. Flavor is mostly crisp grains and a light bit of citrus. Palate is crisp clean and refreshing. Not too bad...

I think that for the category it is (Kolsch style) that it is one of the best. The taste is clear and smooth. The after-taste is good. I like the fact that it is made in the purest format - no additives like carmels and that crap.
