Light gold color with a whitehead. Smooth taste: yeast, honey, and a touch of citrus. Not bad, a worthwhile Kolsch. Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA

First, I had it in a plastic cup on an airplane, which takes "improper glassware" to a new low. Second, I was feeling irritated because the flight attendant had said they carried Alaskan Amber, but when I asked for it I got this instead. (Can you do a place review for an airplane? Can you use a negative number to rate the knowledge of the waitstaff?)
The appearance and aroma were disturbingly reminiscent of a macro, with a vaguely corn-like quality and a macro-brand of light hoppiness (think Coors Light). The flavor was clean, with a minimum of malt and hop flavors -- I struggled to identify any ale-like qualities. Since I normally don’t drink Kolsches or Summer Ales or whatever you want to call this, I want to be fair, but this beer was all about refreshment and little more, and it wasn’t particularly refreshing. (A good tripel can be very refreshing, and so much more.) I can appreciate that craft brewers may have to expand into more drinkable styles to survivie, but this just goes too far for mre. Not recommended. Skyview (4057), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2007 Picked up a 12-oz bottle from ABA annual meeting beer swap in Portland, OR. Pours a golden amber brew with a creamy off-white that dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of tart citrus fruits, iced tea, and a touch of honey. Taste is a good balance of sweet and tart fruits, some lemon peel and a hint of yeast. Finish is dry and a tart citrus aftertaste. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 27, 2007 Updated: Nov 8, 2007Bottle. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is mainly light malts and some grain, slightly sweet, with a bit of yeast, citrus, and floral hops. Flavor is semi-sweet grainy malt with a small hops kick and some citrus. Refreshing and crisp while maintaining an interesting set of flavors. Pretty good, especially for the normally underwhelming category of summer seasonals.
