Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

6/23/2007: Alaskan Summer Ale pours a transparent, deek golden color with large, foamy white head. There is a generous amount of lively carbonation. The aroma contains some brown sugar, pale malts, hint of yeast, and a touch of apple. The flavor begins a little sweet and then moves toward some light fruit (apples and even some banana at time) and then to a dry, spicy finish. There is a toasty or lightly roasted taste in the mid-palate through the finish as well. Light, crisp, and refreshing overall. This beer isn’t necessarily great, but it’s not too bad and is definitely good for the Summer.

12 oz bottle (A090107) sent to my by Yonkers65. Thanks Bruce!

Pours a dark yellow orange with a small white head. Bubbles continuously rise to the top searching for air. Smells of nice citrus, grapes, a little wheat too. Pretty refreshing taste. I was thirsty when I drank this so it went down kind of fast. Had some nice citrus and wheat, a little grain. Very easy drinking summer beer. Decent.

12 ounce bottle. Aroma is a bit estery with some banana aromas as well as some grassy hoppiness present. Smells more like a Belgian Ale than a Kolsch. Transparent golden/yellow body with a relatively small, quickly dissipating white head. Starts with a light puckering astringency. Becomes grainy, malty, and cereal-like. A little chewier towards the end with a bit of sweetness and a light grassy hop bitterness. This is a fucking piss poor rendition of a Kolsch. I mean, it’s an ok beer, but don’t try to call it a Kolsch.

Good and has more flavor than I expected from a Summer Kolsch. Still though these tend to be weak, imo. Plenty drinkable but needs more hops.

Enjoyed several of these on vacation in Alaska. Pours golden color with a smooth white head. Aromas are light malt, mild hops and a bit of citrus. Taste is simiar, with a bit of spice mixed in as well. Fairly light body and smooth aftertaste. Nowhere near Alaskan’s mastery that is the Amber, but very drinkable nonetheless.
