Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Deep straw coloration, slightly hazy. Fully diminishing, spritzy thin white head. Light bready malts totally comprise an unexciting, though totally unoffensive aroma. Light earthy hops join the malts and are tied together by a dusty yeast remnant component. Finishes balanced with pleasant acidity and moderate bitterness. Palate is thin but lively. Not bad at all.

LIght malt aroma with a hint of something - but what? LIght amber gold color with no head. Starts with a light rush of malt, medium mouthfeel that thins, then a thin sweetness, and enough hop follows to balance the malt. Not a huge amount of either, but more substantial than many American versions of the style.

Nothing special here. A simple brew with nothing offending in it, just nothing really good.

Clear golden/yellow appearance with a small white head and little lacing. Sweet malt aroma with layers of fruit and wheat. Mild sweet taste, fruity, with the hops more evident in the finish. A late arriving gift enjoyed as an Artic blast sweeps over a frigid February evening.

Kolsch is a much neglected but wonderful beer style seldom found in the US marketplace. If ’light beer’ existed amoungst ales, Kolsch would be that beer. The barley and wheat malts are balanced very nicely by the ’noble’ German hops. I only wish I could get this beer near my home!

This beer has quickly become one of the favorites from the Alaskan Brewing Company. There has been a buzz surrounding this beer ever since it’s relase, and for good reason. Give this beer a try.

Bottle. Pours a weak gold with a small head and no lacing. Aroma is banana and carrot. Flavor is carboard banana with a touch of honey. Pleasant mouthfeel. Perhaps when I drink this in the Land Of The Midnight Sun it will be better.

12oz bottle. Clear yellow with thin white head. Light aroma of crisp citrus hops, sweet and pale malts. Flavor starts with sweet malts then some crisp hops join the fun. Midway the sweet malts overtake the hops leaving a sweet aftertaste.
