Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Pours with a brilliantly clear, dark gold color and is topped by a frothy, initially four finger thick palest of the pale tan colored head. The aroma is a mix of fruit and herbs at first; sort of a berry note predominantly with a touch of leafy herb-like notes. Actually the berry note is the most pronounced note in the nose of this beer.

The berry note continues through to the flavor of this beer, it is again the most pronounced note as well. A sweet malty note accentuates the fruit character as well. A sharp, clean, yet in no way dominating, bitterness is found throughout the flavor profile of this beer, and helps to temper the slightly heavier body that is contributed by the sweetness. It seems to disappear in the long finish, where a malty, caramelized grain note seems to linger. Perhaps a touch fruitier than I was expecting from a Kölsch, but it adds a touch more character to this beer. Certainly a tasty tipple, especially for a hot summer’s day; I certainly am enjoying it.

Poiurs goldne orange with quickly fading nice head. Citrusy aroma and flavor, a little grainy. Decent, but not great beer. Refreshing in the season.

Pours a clear orangish color with a light head that faded quickly. Light carbonation. Has light spicey, sweet maltly flavor and aroma. Has some grassy hop aroma also. It reminds me alot of the Dusseldorf strain of yeast I used in a past batch of home brew. Light to medium body. Its smooth and a little dry. Not bad. Worth a try

Bottle. Probably the best Summer beer I had this season. It pours golden with a ncie head. Aromas of orange zest and spices. Flavors of malts, spices and orange with a hint of hops. It is refreeshing but not watery and it is quite complex. I am not sure what makes it a Koelsch though.

12-oz. Pours a dark yellow, slightly fizzy head, with thin occasional streams of carb. Another empty Alaskan nose--a little cardboard, maybe. Sour, white-sugar-y palate. A little watery. Cleand and drinkable, without a doubt.

12 oz bottle, poured into pint glass. Head disappears quickly, what little of it there is. Quite carbonated, but not unpleasantly so, with a nice deep yellow color. Looks quenching. The mown grass smell isn’t bad either, especially if you’re having this after actually mowing the lawn. Since this is seasonal brew, I find the scent appropriate. Very light across the palette, slightly sweet but won’t become annoyingly so, even after a six pack. A solid session brew, especially during a BBQ on a hot day. Not Alaska’s best, but certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

22 oz Bomber-Trade w/after4ever Pours a nice clear golden color w/a small head. Sweet, grassy, citrus aroma. Light, malty, grainy, fruity citrus flavor. Long plesent, crisp, clean, malty finish. Definately a summer brew-very drinkable-would be a good summer session beer-good for outdoor activities. Good on a hot day-not sure how many they get in Alaska though!

22oz bomber- An aroma of citrus and light malt on a white head that dissipated quickly into a small lacing. A taste of fruit and grass. I’m not a big Kolsch fan but this is fairly light in body and watered down. Not a bad beer but definitely not Alaska’s best.
