Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Draught sample at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Clear light golden colour. Aroma is light and fresh, with hints of citrus and honey. Body and flavour are both very crisp and clean - and I don’t mean that in a sarcastic, macro way. It’s a simple, pleasant, refreshing, well-made beer.

This beer pours from draught a golden color with a hint of a small white head, quickly dissipating, and relatively little lacing. The aroma is a faint citrus with a hint of hops and malt...pretty basic and tough to distinguish. Flavor-wise, very light to medium bodied with a sticky approach of citrus and malt greeted with a hint of hay grassy grainy hops. Very little in the way of carbonation. The citrus takes care of whatever carbonation may be lacking. Clean, fairly dry finish, as basic as it can possibly be.

Sampled from bottle. Pours a brilliant gold with a thin, white head. Aroma is subtle with notes of fresh fruit. Flavor is balanced with the same ripe fruit noted in the aroma. Good malt backbone. Fruit flavor lingers. Light to medium-bodied and well-carbonated. About on par with Shiner Kolsch that I can buy locally, so I’d only recommend this one if you don’t have to go to great lengths to get it.

Bottle poured a clear fizzy yellow with a billowy white head.Aromas of bread, some toffee, hint of corn and light citrus. Palate was clean and crisp. Flavors of cake, a bit of bread, and a hint of lemon with a dry finish.

Light golden-amber color. Wheat and spice aroma. Taste was also wheaty, but with noticeable fruity hops. Very light and refreshing. Its like a Vienna along the lines of Karl Strauss Amber Lager, but not as heavy.

Pale golden color, medium sized whitea head. Clean grain and slightly spicy aromatics with subtle hop tinges. Crisp grainy kolsch flavor, easy fade into the finish. Mouthfeel is light, clean.

bottle-thanks to whaleman for sharing this summer treat from AK. pours a nice orange hue with a small sudsy white head. grany, lite citrus, fruity, dry yeast quality aromas come out. grany, sweet lots of malt presence here for such a light beer, or for a kolsch for that matter. body is fairly crisp and does this beer justice. lightly grainy finish with lingering sweet citrus notes. not bad, but this doesnt really resemble the kind of kolsch that im used to.

Clear brassy golden body with a loose, sudsy white head. Aroma of fresh malt, warm honey, melon, and light floral notes. Nice full flavor for a kölsch with fresh pleasing maltiness, moderate sweet notes, light butter, low bitterness, and low acidity. This is a good, malty kölsch.
