Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Very, very clean light golden color with little head retention. Slightly fruity on the nose but definite malt dominance. Light body and malty flavor with not much bitterness (if any). High mouthfeel and a quick ending rush of carbonation.

Bomber. Somehow this was ’lost’ in the back of the beer fridge. Aroma is very light, hints of powdered sugar and oranges. Taste is light and refreshing, very citric orange and lemon in the middle and a mellow finish with just a hint of bitter. Really nice summer sipper.

12 oz bottle. Smells like cotton candy, syrup. Pours pale gold with a decent head, good lacing. Tastes of berries, grain. Not as full-bodied as I would like. Better than Pyramid’s Kolsch.

Light golden colored, floral aroma, light fruits. Light on the tongue, little bit sweet with some orange rind and dry finish. Thanks to my parents for bringing it back from Montana.

Served from a bottle aboard the boat on our honeymoon cruise. Pours an orange hue with a small white head. Flavors and aromas are sweet malts, a touch of fruit, and a mild bitter taste.

Slightly orange-tinted golden coloured body with a very thin white head. Aroma of apricots, alcohol, malt, toffee, caramel and a dose of metal - not too amazing. Light-bodied; Refreshing mild taste of apricots, light fruits (grapes, apples, pears) and a mild hit of hops with a solid bit of malt. Aftertaste shows some metallic and malty qualities with a bit of the caramel coming through. Overall, a decent beer - nothing special though, and definitely not one of my favourites from this style. Still happy to sample this though, since we don’t get it on the East Coast at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, California on 18-May-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 27-September-2009.
