Commercial Description:
Style: English Olde Ale. Traditionally malty with the warming sensation of alcohol, Olde Ales are brewed in the fall as winter warmers.

Flavor Profile: Brewed in the style of an English Olde Ale, this ale balances the sweet heady aroma of spruce tips with the clean crisp finish of noble hops. Its malty richness is complemented by the warming sensation of alcohol.

History: From the seafaring adventurers of the 1700s to the homebrewers of today, adding spruce tips to beer has a rich history in Southeast Alaska. The tender new growth of Sitka spruce tips lends a delicious, yet subtly sweet floral aroma to tea, jelly and now Alaskan Winter Ale.

Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Ice Field. A complex blend of six malts including Pale, Wheat, Munich and caramelized malts. Prized Czechoslovakian Saaz hops and Sitka spruce tips.

12 oz bottle-Trade with snojerk321. Amber color w/a slight off white head & good lacing. Rich roasted malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor w/traces of pine/spruce, plum, caramel, & toffee. Full flavor w/a rich mouth feel. This was a good winter brew. Thanks Torry!

350 ml bottle from Holiday. sweet malty aroma. Sweet berry and cedar taste with hints of spice and juniper. Decent.

Poured a big fluffy white head with a body of copper-amber. Nose of spruce tree and pine oils. Caramel flavor of sweet malts and mild sticky hops. Pretty nice winter beer, but definitely not for the summer time.

Great looking beer with a nice, mostly diminishing offwhite head. Pour is a hazy mix of amber and orange colors. Subtle evidence of the spruce tips in the nose together with sweet malt and hops. The sweet malt dominates the flavor. As a result, one of these is usually enough. This beer really tastes like a winter brew. Must be those spruce tips. Only downside is the palate is a bit too sticky. I’ll get this again.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden, with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is sticky-sweet malt, with some pine (spruce?) and Saaz hops. Flavor is a mixture of various spices, including the promised spruce tips, against a background of sweet caramel malt and moderate bit of Saaz hops. An interesting take on a spiced ale.

Aroma is citrisy and piney. Boy what a difference spruce tips make. Great aroma and flavor. Plenty of winter type flavors. Good head and lacing. One of my favorite winters.

On tap @ Pacific Beach Bar & Grill in San Diego. Pretty good winter beer. Medium to creamy body, some hops, well balanced maltiness, nuttiness & spiociness
