Commercial Description:
Style: English Olde Ale. Traditionally malty with the warming sensation of alcohol, Olde Ales are brewed in the fall as winter warmers.

Flavor Profile: Brewed in the style of an English Olde Ale, this ale balances the sweet heady aroma of spruce tips with the clean crisp finish of noble hops. Its malty richness is complemented by the warming sensation of alcohol.

History: From the seafaring adventurers of the 1700s to the homebrewers of today, adding spruce tips to beer has a rich history in Southeast Alaska. The tender new growth of Sitka spruce tips lends a delicious, yet subtly sweet floral aroma to tea, jelly and now Alaskan Winter Ale.

Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Ice Field. A complex blend of six malts including Pale, Wheat, Munich and caramelized malts. Prized Czechoslovakian Saaz hops and Sitka spruce tips.

Pours transparent amber with small yellow head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is slightly fruity, berry-like and malty. Flavor is simple, but somewhat unnaturally sweet. Slightly carbonated. Slightly bitter finish. Good alcohol kick and easy to drink. Not much in terms of spices, but is a simple and easy to drink winter ale.

not a bad winter brew, pours a amber color with a slight reddish heuw, taste much like a german style winter beer, with added malts and some american hop presence, not bad at all, very refreshing with decent alcohol content.

Bottle pours amber, fairly clear, medium quickly dimishing fizzly off-white head, with soft carbonation, and spotty lacing.   Apple cidery aroma, with what could best be described as a buttersweet herbal plant.   Spiced flavor, somewhat similar to Siletz Spruce Ale so I am assuming thats the addition of Spruce I am tasting.   Somewhat berry tasting in nature, and not nearly as piney as I thought this beer would be.   Medium body and mouthfeel.   Finishes somewhat light, strong Spruce flavor that lingers.   Seems like a somewhat weak pale ale with lots of Spruce added.   Tiz alright, but not as full as I would have wanted.

a deep gold/amber ale with a nice white head that retains well-ish. aroma is a combination of toasty malt and spruce. flavor is primarily of malts, with and interesting balancing spruce/pine flavor. interesting mouthfeel, with an odd cooling sensation coming from the spruce. hard to judge its drinkability-would the spruce flavor become overpower-ing.

Amber ale, thin off-white. Light fruit aroma (cherry and blackberry) and lots of spruce resin. Flavour is similar to Alba Scotch Pine ale. Sweet malty flavour that gets a bit cloying. Toffee, fruit and spruce/pine with a sweet finish.

Pour was orange with red and brown mixed in. Little to no head. The aroma was spicy as I would have expected from a winter ale. The flavor started nice but had a odd end to it. I wasn’t able to sit back and be satisfied. This small off taste really ruined it for me.

Poured an Iced Tea color (a description I got from my wife) with a small off white head. Spruce/pine in the aroma and tastes (no surprise there). Lightly sweet with light spices. Refreshing.

Beer pours pale light orange with a dissipating off white colored head. Aroma is modestly sweet malt with some light spiciness. Flavor is quite sweet, maybe too sweet for me. There is also a bit of spiciness but not as much as I expect from one of these winter ales. Not one of the better beers from Alaskan Brewing.
