hughie (2414), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jul 9, 2008 Cask at Fox and Crown, Nottingham. Gold with a large white head. Spicy hop aroma. Some citrus in the taste. Mid bitter finish. Not a bad beer, better than the other two Alcazar offerings I tried today, but it didn’t quite have the freshness you look for in a summer golden.
albertane (310), Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England Jun 15, 2008 Cask at the Fox & Crown, Basford, Nottingham. This pale beer has a soft fruity aroma and a well-balanced flavour with some grapefruit on the finish. It’s not up to par with Castle Rock Harvest Pale, but it’s perfectly enjoyable, especially as a session beer. Straw golden coloured ale with citrus hops which last right through to the finish. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 6, 2005 Grapefruit citrus hops, with cereal malts and sulfur in the nose. Hazy golden body with low, white, large-bubbled head that recedes to ring. Lightly malty flavour with fair balancing bitterness has some citrus and sulfurous notes. Medium-light body with low carbonation. Cask at GBBF 2005. chriso (4420), London, Greater London, England Sep 3, 2005 Cask (handpump), GBBF, August 2005. Golden, clean and grassy. The hops are herbaceous rather than floral. Odd how this beer divided opinions. I go down the middle. Entirely fit for the purpose but, with so many similar beers at the festival, this didn’t make any overwhelming impression (good or bad) on my tastebuds. I’d drink this again happily but wouldn’t actively seek it out.
