| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Deep amber pour. The nose is very hoppy with lots of grapefruit, citrus and pine. Heavy malt sweetness that underlies and resiny piny character. Although sweet, the malts aren’t really caramelly at all. Warming brings up some lighter lemony citrus character that is fairly unusual. It’s fairly hoppy and chewy and the malts are light enough that I’d call this more IIPA than barleywine, although regardless what you call it, it’s still damn tasty. argo0 (6974), Washington DC, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Draft at the brewpub - Poured a darkish orage-amber in color with a thick, creamy light tan head that hung around to produce some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma was strong of citrus hops with a hint of some malty sweetness lingering in the background. Flavor was hoppy, but not overpoweringly so. Plenty of citrus/grapefruit. Initially slightly sweet before the hops come roaring in. Finish is medium bitter and clean. Very easy drinking for a beer with nearly 10% ABV, but it is certainly all there. Really good!!
