500ml bottle at Chris Shindig. Nice attractive deep brown colour, lasting beige. Bit of coal dust aroma. OK in mouth, some decent fruit. Sweetish. OK.

Bottle: Aroma is a really bready aroma with thick malts and molasses characteristics, nutty, and a faint scent of alcohol. Appearance is almost opaque black with a medium sized tan head. Flavor is a malty, nutty, bready, some caramel, and molasses overtones. Palate is malty and sweet with not a lot of carbonation and sweet on the lips. Overall, A pretty decent Baltic porter. Quality from the good old Eastern Block!

A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris O’s Shindig. Dark brown colour. Sweet coffee and caramel malt are the order of the day. Sadly neither are served up in anything like an impressive fashion. Drinkable but no where near exciting.

Now that Piebalga no longer makes Sātāns, there is little competition in this arena.

Bottle: Dark brown, ruby, light head and nice lacing. The nose is light and sweet with cake and apricot. Soy sauce and licorice too. The flavor is sweet with roast and grass. Finishes thick, sweet, still a bit lacking in the porter department. Not sure what I should be comparing this to.

Pours dark ruby black with tan head. Chocolate malt aromas, smoked scents also figs toffee and light whispers of citrus. Toasted chocolate, sugars and figs on the taste. There is also milky caramel melting into the mouth. Touches of a distant smokiness throuhgout the taste, and hints of fruits-berries, apricots- towards the finish; which is pleasing. A nice warming feeling form the alcohol, and a good mouthfeel. A nice baltic porter.

50 cl bottle from Alko, Finland. Nutty porter with a strong smoky flavour. Almost like the forest has caught fire. But it is easy-drinking, fine with cheese. A fine beer.

Black pour big creamy almond head. Grainy smokey aroma. Flavor is a big sweet chocolate and caramel punch, very sugary, oats, nuts, roasted malts and some smokiness in the aftertaste with the sugar staying as well. As it warms the chocolate sugar sweetness really shines and just taste great. Very creamy mouthfeel making this go down very smooth and fast. The sweet milk chocolate is the main flavor but the caramel sweetness rides with it balancing it perfectly. Awesome beer ecspecially for only $1.79 a 500ml. 6 Year old bottle, Best by Sept. 11 2000. Pretty much still the same beer. Slight oxidation in the aroma. Flavor has a bit of oxidation but it actually gives more sweetness and a bourbon barrel touch to it and more coffee in there as well. Still smooth and easy drinking, very good and nice to see the differences with aging.
