Rated 5/20/07: A Latvian Baltic Porter that came across well, but doesn’t stand out. Moderate aroma, gets better as it warms but is still tame. Honey roasted nuts with sugar and syrup, malty for sure. Enticing dark brown pour with a reddish tint, huge creamy head and mild lacing. This pours like a nice dry stout. Creamy on the palate, medium bodied that finishes sweet and a touch thin. Nice malt content, flavor is mild with brown sugar, milk, and chocolate with a faint smokiness. Solid, came across as well made and it was enjoyable.

Bottle: (Generously provided by beastiefan2k): Deep brown in color, looks a bit thin with a ruby hue. The head is tan in color and fades to a thin film. Has a somewhat cheap, mass-produced type of aroma with some corn, pale malt, and only hints of cocoa. The flavor is somewhat sweet. The mouth feel is slick, and a bit syrupy. Has a light stickyness in the malt profile with hints of caramel, cocoa, maple and later licorice notes. Finish doesn’t offer any balancing bitterness at all. Overall a bit sweet, but still somewhat enjoyable.

0.5 ml bottle, in Riga. Pours nearly opaque brown. Beige head with lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, caramel, metallic notes and maltiness. Bursts into the mouth with alcohol, sweetness and malt fullness. Prominent flavor is dried, bittersweet fruit and roasted malt. Tapers off into coffee flavors, sourness, bitterness and light alcohol notes. Some berry flavors in the aftertaste, as well. A beautiful porter.

The aroma is sweet with molasses, multi grain bread, chocolate, toasted malt, and prunes. The appearance is dark brown with a moderate head. The flavor is like the aroma with an emphasis on the sweet dark malt and fruity elements. The palate is a little thin. Overall a drinkable, interesting beer that is not great.

Clear, dull muddy-red body with a collapsing beige head. Figgy, warm pumpkin bread aroma. Aged, well-ripened dark fruit flavors with light oxidation, seemingly from the brewing side of the process. Texture like a simple syrup with light carbonation. Not bad. Not special either.

Bottle. Sweet malty aroma with sticky tar, caramel, brown sugar, maybe some candy sugar? Deep burgundy pour with a large, rich, creamy, lacing tanned head. Taste is sweet and richly malty with a good shot of smoke. Dry end, a little bit of alcohol burn but not to ill effect. Touch of herbs and raisins with the light sugary notes. Body is medium, perhaps lightish-medium, drying out for the berryful aftertaste. Slightly salty. Has some of the better bockish qualities. I understand the criticism levied on this guy, but ... still hit the spot!
