Batch 1C062008: Sweet cola and cocoa aroma with some dusty attic notes; pours with a vibrant, stiff, perennial head; dobblebock sweetness with alot of carmelized sugars, no caraffe , dark malt or hoppy bitterness; visous and not particularly smooth; might be a good dessert beer, but not much more than that.

Bottle. Pours nice black with a lasting light tan head. Hoppy and light with a soda like aroma. Taste is chocolate right away, smooth and nicely carbonated.

Thanx to Secret Santa. Pour was black, head was huge, foamy dark tan. Big biter coffee nose. Taste had coffee and dark chocolate. A bit syrup like, but excellent brew.

Bottle. $2.49. Tryed this originally at a tasting at Cellars Minnetonka and it was easily the best beer served that evening. Picked up a bottle a few months later; my first Latvian beer. Sweet molasses aroma with hints of milk chocolate. More attractive aroma than most Baltic Porters I’ve had which are usually somewhat rough. Large, mostly lasting tan head. Clear, deep dark blackish ruby red. Lots of slow carbonation. Excellent sheet lacing. Similar to the aroma, this is finer, smoother, and creamier than most other Baltics I’ve had, most notably, Baltika 6, which was excellent in its own right. A little tinge of semi-sweet sourness. Overall, quite sweet, almost syrupy, but not cloying. There is almost enough alcohol to counter. A very well done beer that in my mind is underrated.

50 cl bottle poured a clear, dark brown with a short lived amber head. Aromas of licorice, dark chocolate and a hint of soap. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of licorice, bitter chocolate, a hint of smoke and some soapiness with a smooth, lingering finish.

Bottle. Dark chestnut brown with a large beige head. Rich fruity and malty aroma with some raisins and brown sugar. Taste is sweet, roasted malts, lots of caramel, some chocolate. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, quite smooth and creamy. I like it.
