Aroma of earth, malt, herbs, toffee and caramel. Straightforward taste with notes of butterscotch, coffee syrup, and peat. Mouthfeel is wonderful -- thick, chewy, bubbly and volatile. I was impressed at how good a Latvian porter could taste. More like a dark lager, maybe, but Bravo! Altaris, this is good. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2005 Thanks to Buck Dich for this. Pours deep ruby (dark brown through ambient light), with huge tan head. Aroma is malt, some nuts, chocoff, cabernet. Tastes extremelt rich, with a firm malt backbone backed up with prunes, chocoff, nuts, and a lactosy, oaty finish. Extremely smooth and rich. Very nice porter. In fact, let’s go ahead and dub this an elite Baltic porter. eczematic (1198), Sydney, Australia

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 25, 2005 Dark crimson with a malt accented nose that gives hints of caramel, toffee and coffee. Very, very sweet with very low carbonation and syrupy (not creamy) body. Light coffee, nougat, caramel, toffee malt flavor with a minimal amount of hop bitterness and flavor. Rough stuff. humulus (338), Salem, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2005 Sweet and malty to the extreme max. Very much like the unfermented carbonated malt beverages that are drank like soda in africa and south america. But beyond the malt is a dopplebock grapyness and a grapefruit cereal quality (which is malted cereal). Very different than other baltics I’ve tried. Virtually no hops detected and little carbonation. Lighter than most porters. Anyway, very interesting and quite good. Give yourself a few days without sugar, to recover.
