App.: Very deep brown-black with a slight reddish hue and a decent tan head.
Aroma: Lots of pears and hazelnuts, reminds me of a cream sherry, some raisins and figs, light chocolate, molasses and treacle, a touch of vanilla.
Palate: Medium+ body, basically no carbonation, a bit powdery and slick.
Flav.: More molasses, chocolate and raisins than the nose, the pears and hazelnuts are more subdued, vanilla; fairly sweet, a touch bitter, a touch boozy, with pleasant chocolate and molasses to finish.
A nice example of the style, I think. gnoff (3570), Göteborg, Sweden

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Not under or overwhelming, just enjoyable. A nice bit of roastiness carries you through the entire pint. A bit of dark bready maltiness with some chocolate, jammy dark fruits and a hint of licorice are present as well. Decent. esjaygee (1531), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 27, 2008 Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of molasses, caramel, toasted malts and black licorice. Taste of caramel, bread, alcohol, molasses with a molasses aftertaste. A touch watery and the alcohol is too prevalent, made finishing this one a chore. So-so. RCL (1479), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
