Sweet malty toffee with slight burnt edge in the nose, bitter sweet in the mouth, some cloying toffee notes and a lingering smoky bitterness, lingering earthiness in the finish but still quite sweet and cloyingbefore drying off at the end. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Bottle from Aldi, Aylesbury, Bucks, consumed 13-01-09 Pours reddy to copper in colour with an off white head. There is a reasonable tanginess to this, a slight metallic tinge which I’m sure that I detected in the one of these Aldi/Batemans beers that I had the other day. Some furry dryness, a little bitterness. Its better than expected but that’s not a ringing endorsement. A5 A4 F6 P3 OV11 leaparsons (4754), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2008 500ml bottle from Aldi. Ruby coloured ale. Apple notes. Fairly dry. Some nutty notes and a bit of chocolate. It’s an OK beer, but it lacks character, and is largely indistinguishable from any other British bottled ale. Quite drinkable - good hop integration, though the malt is a little flat. DruncanVeasey (2768), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England

Nose not unpleasant boiled sweetness, Werthers, caramel, musty aroma hops. Mouth marzipan, caramel, assertive bittering hop, chalky Yorkshire softness. Lingers bitterly. Not bad. imdownthepub (5178), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Approached this with trepidation, but it turned out to be not bad at all. Heavyish darkly roasted malts, ok a little tinny, sharp, with a vegetal, boiled hop note, but deep, toffeish malt. Fairly decent. scotty (834), Scotland
