Commercial Description:
This medium-bodied ale is dark in color and deceiving on the palate. The glassy smooth finish of this beer is your first hint that dark in color doesn't always mean heavy in stomach.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and chocolate malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted dark chocolate flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours oil black with a thinnish head that dissapates quickly. Nose is malty with lightly roasty and chocolatey tones. Flavor is same with a slightly acidic aftertaste. Pretty thin on the mouth but overall a very drinkable porter.

Bottle from Steve. Thanks man! Pours dark brown with a huge beige head. Aroma is tobacco and chocolate. Flavor is thin with tobacco and coffee. Eh, not bad.

12/31/2008 and 1/21/2009: Ale Asylum Contorter Porter has a traditional deep brown color with a thin tan skin on top. The has a really appetizing roasty, coffee aroma. The flavor is also quite robust with heavily roasted malt accompanied by chocolate and coffee. There is also a nice herbal/grassy acidic coffee-like bitterness in the finish. I really like the amount of roasted barley flavor in this beer. It also has a medium body and is easy to drink. This is a porter that I could drink one after another and enjoy every one quite thoroughly. This is another solid Ale Asylum brew.

12 fl. oz. bottles given to me by my good old buddy Jason. Thanks man! Rating #44 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours a chocolate black with a tan head. Good lactose flavors with nice chocolate and coffee flavors too. Accents of caramel too. Milky creamy mouth. Good porter!

Thanks to hopdog for passing this bottle onto me. Pours a deep brown almost black with a medium creamy tan head that left some lacing down the side of the glass. Aroma of grainy malt, chocolate notes, light coffee, some roasty notes, caramel, almonds and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee grinds, dark chocolate, caramel and nuts. Solid porter.
