Commercial Description:
This medium-bodied ale is dark in color and deceiving on the palate. The glassy smooth finish of this beer is your first hint that dark in color doesn't always mean heavy in stomach.

Pours black like coffee, slightly viscous with a tan head. Nose of dark chocolate, malt and rye bread. Nice carbonation with dark chocolate on the palate, fuller mouthfeel and a clean finish.

Draught sample at the brewery, mid-October 2006, listed as "Disporterly Conduct", clever ha ha. Beautiful opaque walnut-to-black with a thin ring of foam and creamy tan head though it dies quickly....aroma is stunning: strong, roasty coffee and lightly burnt malts, rich underlying caramel, faint wafts of gingerbread and, with some warmth, star anise and vanilla, a lovely balance of spice and roasty porter goodness.....luscious body, nutty-oily in mouthfeel with strong touches of dried fruit (cherry, fig), medium-bodied coffee, bitter chocolate and roasty dark grains....somewhat light-bodied but there’s enough heft to support the richness...hmm this seems to be rated on the low side of this fine brewery’s wares but it was my favorite for sure.

On tap at Ale Asylum, Dark roasted aroma, with alternating shades of brownie chocolate and mild coffee bean. Flavor is a well done blend of roasted malt, bakers chocolate and slight hints of mocha, texture is as smooth as can be,aftertaste of chocolate bakery and a sip of coffee. Well done

pretty good beer; one of their best, I think. Poured with a tan head and some lace. Opaque dark blackish brown. Nice roasty malty nose with a little dark ripe fruit, cocoa, coffee, a hint of vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is very similar and yet fairly dry. In spite of the richness it’s fairly drinkable. But at the same time very full flavored so other flavors in my mouth clashed a bit. Nice finish with no off flavors. Not too boozy. Label reminds me of Thailand.

This one was under the label of "DisPORTERly Conduct". Very nice dark mahogany (but clear) ale with little head. Good roasty burnt flavor along with chocolate. A bit watery perhaps, but a nice offering nonetheless.

The beer pours a nice dark brown and shows some notes of csaramel on the nose. The mouthfeel takes the caramel and drives it into a smooth malty finish.

12/31/2008 and 1/21/2009: Ale Asylum Contorter Porter has a traditional deep brown color with a thin tan skin on top. The has a really appetizing roasty, coffee aroma. The flavor is also quite robust with heavily roasted malt accompanied by chocolate and coffee. There is also a nice herbal/grassy acidic coffee-like bitterness in the finish. I really like the amount of roasted barley flavor in this beer. It also has a medium body and is easy to drink. This is a porter that I could drink one after another and enjoy every one quite thoroughly. This is another solid Ale Asylum brew.

12 fl. oz. bottles given to me by my good old buddy Jason. Thanks man! Rating #44 for this beer.
