Comments: Cask- Wenlock Arms. Sharp, salty, citrusy, floral and spicy, fresh golden ale. Delicious example, very aromatic.

Cask (handpump) at the Wenlock Arms, Islington. Presumably a Smoking Ban special. I’d been getting pretty disillusioned with this style as too many of the beers were beginning to seem pale, clean and not a lot else. However, this was a quintessential example that I enjoyed very much indeed. Pale gold colour, tending towards straw. Massively aromatic, flowery nose. Equally floral aroma, packed with fragrant but spicy hops. The mouthfeel holds the line with a firm bite. OK, it may be a little one-dimensional, but when the dimension is a good as this, I’m not bothered. An excellent, tasty brew served in tip top condition.
