That in itself is a huge plus. This beer is dark for an ESB. The flavour is fairly light though. Just the right amount of body so that it is neither thin nor heavy. Overall, however, not particularly remarkable. There is nothing about this beer that stands out, and in my opinion, it is not terribly complex. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA

I never know what to expect anymore with American ESBs, they are all over the board. This was superior in its rich but not overly sweet malt background, just the right amount of floral hoppiness gets into your nose with every sip along with some jammy fruit notes. Creamy well balanced mouthfeel. Highly enjoyable. FlyingSwine (170), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 1, 2008 22oz bottle. Nice looking beer. Pours a medium copper-brown, with a nice off-white head. Aroma is balanced, with a bit of spice. Flavor is was almost perfect for a bitter, not too hoppy, plenty of malt. Palate was smooth, with just a bit of fizzy carbonation. Overall a very good example of an American ESB. nearbeer (1849), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2008 22 oz bottle poured into an English pint glass has a dark amber color with red highlight. head initially is a thick one finger light tan and falls to a layer with good retention. aroma has caramel malt, light hops, spice, and mild fruit. mouth feel is medium light with a nice creamy texture. flavors are bolder in the taste bringing a well malted character and light bitters along with mild hops. there is some sweetness that i like and light spice along with nicely complementing hops that are all well balanced. very enjoyable to drink. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 3, 2008 Bomber. Pours a deep copper color with a one finger creamy off white head. Nose is really mild with just a faint hint of sweet malts. Palate is caramel, malt and a touch of hops. A bit too sweet for my tastes. Medium mouth feel and decent lacing. Not one of Alesmith’s better beers. kegbear (272), Orange, California, USA
