Aroma is heavy roasted malt with some hops noticeable as well. The taste is a wonderful sweet malt balanced beautifully by fruity hops at the end. This is easily my favorite American-made English ale, and I wish I lived out West so I could have AleSmith more regularly. puzzl (2648), New York, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Bottle from FlacoAlto. The last remaining normal Alesmith beer I’d not yet ratedPale herbal aroma, celery and a gritty malt. Bitter hops in the flavor with a vegetal note that is right on style. Light sweetness and a touch of earthiness. Hops seem more American than British, and there is a fairly high bitterness that is not expected. An American style ESB, perhaps. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2008 Copper pour - very sour. I don’t think it’s the beer - I think it’s supposed to be that way. It’s not bad, the aroma is really good and the beer has a decent body. The sourness puts me off - but that’s just me. ON SECOND EXAMINATION: I had this with Vietnamese food and it compliments the food PERFECTLY. Try it sometime - this beer, and some nice and spicy lemongrass chicken. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 13, 2008 The bomber pours clear copper with gold edges and nice lasting tan head along with sheet lacing. The aroma is mild with roasty malts along with some vague hops. The taste has mild spice hop bitterness, faint pine hops mixed with semi sweet malts, mild roasted malts and just a bit of malt astringency. Seems like a nice sessionable ESB with a decent body for the style. It leaves a mild roastiness behind in the after taste. IEBAILI (123), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2008 Rock solid head, thick and longlasting and leaves tons of very heavy lacing. Attractive deep gold with amber highlights. Great smell of caramel and dried fruits, but the flavor is a little dissappointing - just doesn’t have the intensity of the aroma. Smooth and pleasant, not much hop presence, highly drinkable but it’s just hard for me to get excited about this style. jujubeast6000 (795), Houston, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 11, 2008 (bottle): Pours a light reddish brown body. Small light tannish head, quickly diminishing. Hoppy aroma, somewhat piney, somewhat maty, but not too strong. Malty, piney, acrid taste. Almost dusty taste. Maybe some banana. Watery & drinkable. MaltIness. More hops as it warms up. Too malty for my taste, but very drinkable. BMan1113VR (2938), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Served in a dimpled Pilsner glass, cause that is the only thing I had around at the time. Aroma is bready malts and lemonny hops. Some cinnamon too. Color is a slightly hazy light amber-brown. Lacing was excellent; the glass was a history of every sip taken. Inital flavor is a touch salty and then lightly sour at the finish. After taste is a bit prunny. Light to medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Mighty refreshing! BuckeyeBoy (1674), Boise, Idaho, USA
