Black with milky skin and thin edges. Balsamic vinegar and cherry aroma, with minerals, especially calcium like in hard water, and plenty or rich dark chocolate and gamey meat. Bold and warm.

Flavors are of course really huge; black licorice, sarsaparilla and german chocolate in front; very hot, but it never really burns or gets medicinal because its heavy enough to support it. Still eventually it starts only to taste like chocolate and alcohol; the malts are huge and its still way too young.

It has the same vaguely hollow feel that a lack or good yeast flavors gives to a lot of these beers. Overall the palate is medium, with high carbonation, and so the high alcohol becomes distracting, and it finishes with heat and fruit, somewhat like a blueberry vodka; its ok now and it just needs to mellow out. Thanks Zac!

Bottle. Pour is deep dark brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is smoke, whisky, chocolate, light coffee, faint vanilla, leather, and light brown sugar. Aroma is much less malty and more whisky and smoke. Flavor is smoke, leather, and sweet malt up front with a continuous smoke flavor in the back of my throat. Finish mellows out a bit with more malty sweetness and light vanilla. Also a hint of leather and a light alcohol burn. It’s certainly complex. This beer is like sitting in a dimly lit room with all old leather couches smoking a big cigar while sipping on old scotch. If you have access to such a room, drink this beer there. It will feel right.

2007 bottle thanks to kegbear, This is possibly one of the best smelling beers I have ever come across. Malt, chocolate some whiskey/bourbon. Some more chocolate. This beer smells like the real deal... can the taste measure up? OH YES at first you taste the chocolate dances across your tongue then the alcohol warms the edges of your mouth and throat as it goes down. Some real frothy chocolate thickness in this one as it lingers in your mouth and throat. I wish I could go through life with the aftertaste of this in my mouth. This is one of the best beers I have ever had. Awesome!!!

Bottle courtesy of WeeHeavySD. Dark brown red pour. Fat amount of hops and deep feeling. Tastes of heavy sweet cocoa pour. Very flavorful. This has a good amount of strong hops and taste.

Bottle. Pitch black body with a thick tan head. The aroma is vanilla, oak, bourbon booze, roasted malt and cocoa. Nice and complex. The flavour is light roasty, bourbon, vanuilla, oak, sweet chocolate and alcohol. The booze is definately there but overall its a great beer.

750mL bottle, #539, poured into a tulip. Pours dark brown out of the bottle and sits almost completely opaque black in the glass underneath a two-inch fluffy tan head that shows great retention and lacing, especially for a barrel-aged beer. The aroma starts out with a big dose of bourbon and vanilla sweetness. As it warms, the underlying porter starts to show a bit more with dark roasted malts and sweet chocolate. The taste seems to have a heavier dark chocolate presence up front with the roasted malts underneath. The finish is slightly dry with cocoa but is really dominated by the bourbon sweetness as a serious burn in the throat on the way down. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and sweet overall with the oak and bourbon really lingering after each sip, like chasing the porter with a shot of bourbon. This is an excellent porter right now with a strong bourbon presence which adds a good bit to the underlying beer. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original Decadence 07, so this is definitely an improvement. That said, in a year or two this thing could be world-class. I hope I get the chance to find out.
