Poures a very dark brown/black with a light tan head and heavy lacing. Aroma of coffee, but not as much as much as the non BA version as I recall. Heavy smooth feel with some dark roasted slight sour hints. Strong lingering smokey aftertaste. Very deserving of it’s reputation. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

( i think he’s missing a kidney at this point!). 2006 bottle # 193/233. pours just next to blacker than my soul with a creamy tan head and plenty of spotty lacing. aromas of fruit, light bourbon, milder coffee than regular version ( :-( = sad ), wood, warm and delicioso! if you ate a hershey kiss right after a swig of whiskey it would taste like this!... chocolate candy, nutty, coffee, wood, soft bourbon, really robustly roasted grain, mmm. big time aftertaste of of coffee and chocolate hangs onto the tongue. luscious mouth feel... slick and smooth. really hearty and warming... it makes me want to curl up and sleep ( after i’m done drinking it of course!)... The menu stated the vintage as 2007. Black pour with a dark, persistent tan head. Aroma has a lot of oak and barrel character present right away over some heavy roast and defined alcoholic heat. The taste is brash but great - the barrel sits so nicely under the coffee and roast. The alcohol is a bit rough at this early age, but I’m often tolerant of booziness in my brews. Great now, but this beer really needs to sit down for a couple years. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA

A big thanks to Jeffin7 for sharing this one. Ink black with a tight, light brown head, just perfect. Nice roasted coffee and chocolate in the nose - but it doesn’t quite jump out at you. Flavor wise, it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Thick, heavy silky chocolate, roasted and black patent malts, coffee, vanilla, bourbon and a smooth alcohol buzz throughout. Thick, massive and silky smooth on the palate. Violently good. Swalden28 (1510), McKinney, Texas, USA

Aroma of dark roast, bakers chocolate, some alcohol. Flavor of nice ark roast, sweet, some dark roast, very faint wood, faint bourbon. Mouth feel is heavy body with low carbonation. Overall, very good stuff!!!! MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA

Not much head or carbonation. Whisky barrel effects noted in aroma and flavor. Lots of roast and chocolate throughout. Seemed a bit thin, perhaps due to lack of carbonation. Some stickyness. Alcohol present, but subdued. a little hard alcohol or wine-like. I think this is good, no question, but maybe not as great as others think. redlight (1487), Winter Park, Florida, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2009 Bottle # 221/233 from 2006 written in silver marker on the side of my gold foiled 750 ml bottle. Pours a mostly solid black body with a bubbly beige head. Aroma is great with notes of vanilla, bourbon, slight chocolate, very mild roasty notes, hint of coconut and butter, very slight alcohol. Medium bodied with strong carbonation for a bottle that has been sitting in a barrel and three years of age on top of that, finishes slightly thin and warm from the 12% ABV. Flavor of bourbon, syrupy chocolate notes remain rather strong despite the age, vanilla extract, and some wet wood. Really nice and a huge thanks to Jon for sending me this one, thanks bro.
