Great aroma which I enjoyed more than anything else. Really well attenuated. I feel like the barrel definately took the edge off the base beer. Im pleasantly surprised as I really didnt care for the other BA Alesmiths or the regular speedway. Did I say killer aroma? doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA

No head, no lace, comewhat thick looking. Smells of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and wood. Tastes of roasty, dark malts up front and then the bourbon and coffee and wood kick in. I don’t taste the big coffee flavors like in un-BA Speedway but the barrel flavors are not overpowering. Thick body with a few fizzies but no real carbonation. sebletitje (1997), Tampa, Florida, USA

bottle # 59/235 year 2006.
Pours black with no head.
Aroma has notes of malts, roasted coffee with light notes of barrel.
Taste, compared to the 3 other AS barrel we tried that night this one had the lightest of barrel that I could pick up.
Lots of roasted malts, coffee, loaded with chocolate.
Top notch beer, drinkable and boozy. JoeTheYounger (293), California, USA

Bottle 191 of 447 from Hophead22 beer tasting. Not very aromatic. Had a very sour after taste. Something happened to this bottle unfortunately. Maybe it sat in a hot car or garage for too long. I was very disappointed. Looking forward to trying the new batch and will re-rate this.
Update:
On draft at Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 2009. Dark black pour with toasty brown head that spilled all over my rating book (oops). Aroma was hints of coffee, whiskey, dark fruits, and cocoa. Taste was just bourbon and chocolate. Pallet was medium and nice. Overall very good stuff but the barrel over powers the roastiness and the coffee that makes speedway what it is. tokyogoat (576), San Diego, California, USA

Nose was big on bourbon with dry cocoa and oak.
Taste is big and bold, coffee has faded a little, bourbon is still big and slightly hot, lots of raisin and chocolate. Much more than just a bourbon speedway, very impressed. Oakes (8142), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 11, 2004 Very dark brown; a little bit of whisky, coffee, toast, roasted malt in the aroma. Palate is sweet, with whisky, lots of lasting maltiness, toffee, vanilla. Complex, interesting beer. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 4, 2007 Sampled at DLD. Pours dark brown with a creamy brown head. The aroma has lots of bourbon and milk chocolate, cream and vanilla - quite lactic. Full bodied with soft carbonation. There are lush rich flavors that are well integrated - bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, cream vanilla, oak and other aspects - quite complex. The finish was smooth and vineous with lots of roasted malt and seemed a bit milky. Excellent impy stout. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 29, 2008 Bottle. 2007 Vintage #46/447. Blackish beer with a nice tan head. Bourbon, rich malt, vanilla, and light coffee aroma. Bourbon, malt, vanilla, light fruity flavor with of course, coffee. Medium-plus bodied. Bourbon lingers with vanilla, rich malt, and light coffee. Lighter bodied than expected. Bourbon components are strong, but they complement more than in the BAON I’d had.
