thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 30, 2006 This bottled brew marked #77 of 234 from Mike Sprinkle at a rating party in Indianapolis, IN foamed up and out of the bottle as Mike opened it. Trying as hard as he may he fought it but still it made quite the mess and got all over people around him. The foaming continued up and out of the bottle for a long time! What a mess it made! Almost half a bottle wasted! Once it settled down, it poured a small sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that left behind an excellent sheet lacing on top of a semi-opaque dark brown colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was vinous with bourbon and dark malty notes. The mouth feel was vinous with a bourbon malt flavor from start to finish finish. The strong flavor of dark malts was very vinous. All in all an excellent brew! Thanks Mike! And ya missed me! Ha ha!
nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a thin brownish head. Aroma of molasses, caramel and bourbon. Flavor was very strong with bourbon. Palate was smooth with soft carbonation and a medium body. MI2CA (1101), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2008 Sample at J Gumbos Aug 2008 Indy tasting - First off, I absolutely love the base beer and we had that first. The result was the bourbon probably stood out more than it would have otherwise. Not a big fan of bourbon, but this one has gotten pretty balanced. Aroma is peat, oak, bourbon, caramel and toffee. Flavor matches with the bourbon being a bit stronger but not overpowering. Incredibly smooth palate. Very nice BA version of an already great brew. maniac (2022), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle at RBSG2008 Grand Tasting on 08/02/2008. Clear dark amber body. Big caramel and light molassas aroma. Big smooth caramel flavor. Full body with low carbonation. glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 19, 2008 Thanks to bitbucket tasting. No head. Good amount of bourbon in the nose and taste. Still picking up plenty from the base beer, but seems to be a bit thinner than the original (did a side-by-side). Good, but I think I’d take the original over this. paytoplay (56), , California, USA Sep 17, 2008 2005, I can see this getting better in 3-5 years, thats how good this brew is. Had never had a regular Wee Heavy from Alesmith for some reason. Intense brew, dark rich and had a finish like no other. Alc and acidity keep this very focused but still it’s big. Barrel aged nose of burbon is tied into chocolate and dark coffee type aroma. Haunting. Powerful mid palate.
Thanks to Tom at O’Brien’s SD and his Alesmith tasting for this. Maybe the best beer I’ve ever had.
