Toffee, caramel, candied fruits and alcohol nose. Spicy and earthy on the palate with notes of white pepper, coriander, nougat and brown sugar. Clean and mildly hot finish.

Provided by Styles. Clear, amber body with small off-white head. The aroma is vinous, cherry, toffee, caramel and pine. The flavor is toffee, cookie dough, spicy hops and bread. Full body is soft and smooth with a warm finish. Nice.

Sweet syrupy caramel nose, auburn color, low tight head that clings to the edges with polka dot foam in the middle. Sweet big fat malt base with a spices and cinnamon. Lots of hop bitter to counter the sweet sugary body. Warming alcohol effect as it goes down. A good, heavy, over-the-top US barley wine. Intense.

Clear red-orange body, bubbly off-white sparse head. Something is dominating the aroma that I can’t pinpoint. Spiced caramel? Some grass comes through too. Wow... great flavor. Aged chocolate, coffee, caramel malt Like a delicious coffee cake type of thing. Fruit? Very complex, rich, and balanced. Simply put: Yummy.

Bottle. Rich caramel pour with really no head to speak of. Aroma of caramel malt coupled with some spices with some dry fruitiness as well. The flavor held a good bit of malt with more kind of even spiciness...some yeast and fruit as well. Thick bodied, a bit gritty at times...fairly sweet with a dry/spicy/sweet finish.

Bottle from silphium (he provided me one to actually drink to go with the one I got myself that I’ve been hoarding for nearly 1.5 years already). Aroma is a beautiful mixture of ripe fruit and interesting vegetables, not vegetal but highlighting such things as beets, hearts of palm, red pepper, orange, lilac, lime, and fresh tea leaf. Flavor is non-aggressive, very mellow molasses, brown sugar characteristics but not that sweet, rum, toffee, tobacco. Incredibly well balanced and extremely drinkable, this beer has aged in a way other beers can only dream of. Though not huge like typical RB top 100s, the complexity and craft in this beer are outstanding, and deserves to be in a class with the best out there. It is truly rare that one can sip an 11% beer so elegant and enjoyable. Big thanks to Silphium for the bottle, I eagerly await drinking my own bottle that I’ve been stashing.

750mL bottle, courtesy of footbalm. Thanks, Eric! Pours a murky, amber-brown appearance; light, yellow-tinted head with large bubbles. Light toffee, caramel and dried fruits in the aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: light carbonation; plenty of toffee, dried fruits, and warming alcohol; raisins, tropical fruits, and caramel; complex and well-integrated. Long, brown and candy sugar finish.
