Courtesy SoLan. Pours a hazy orange amber with a medium bubbly tan head. Very rich smell. Caramel, yeast, malt, sweet fruit round it out. A very nice malty, sweet taste. Caramel notes are probably the most prominent. Gets fruity sweeter towards the finish. Very smooth indeed. One of the better old ales Ive had. I think they do a good job of keeping some life to this beer, as Ive had some old ales that were just dead.

Shared at CT V by nolankowal i think. Had a side by side with the BA Dec. Pours a med brown with a very small head. Aroma was of brown sugar, maltiness, caramel, like an old ale. Flavor was pretty sweet and a little alcohol.. Pretty good overall and somehow i tasted some bourbon somehow.

Sampled at Columbus tasting next to the barrel aged. I preferred this one just by my own personal preference. Poured light brown, slightly sweet fruity taste, maybe caramel. Definitely can taste the alcohol!

Bottle. Mahogany-brown body with a soapy white head. The aroma is pungent- yeasty cheese, sugar, sweet bread, and caramel. Very sweet flavour consisting of caramel, wood, and loads of alcohol. Barleywine-esque sugars and heftiness. I think, as others have mentioned, this might be a bit too young.

Thick, with a slightly tongue numbing strangeness from a combination of bittering hops and alcohol. Decent caramel aroma, nice malt body. Nothing terribly special from an outstanding brewer.

(750ml Bottle, 2005) Pours a murky amber-brown body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of caramel, grapes, cherries, and spices. Flavor of toffee, alcohol, malt, mild hops, and vinous with a dry finish.

Tasted at YeHA! 2006 in Montreal. App.: sl. cloudy, reddish deep cooper. Aroma: raisins, dried fruits, burnt sugar, lots of malt, molasses and brown sugar. Palate: a bit powdery, thick, syrupy and low in carbonation. Flav.: intensely sweet, all the nose comes through, slightly bitter finish. Too sweet...I don’t love it.
