Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Bottle from Zinister, sampled at his tasting. Thanks!
"Pours an iodine-stained ruby with a nose of bready hops and celery. Flavor is candied hops, ring candy, and strawberry hops syrup. Magnificent mouthfeel. I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E.

A murky dark brown appearance with a large head this may be due to the horrible pouring technique of Sassy. Or the mason jar it’s in. The aroma is brown sugar, alcohol, raisins, and nutmeg. The flavor contains a bit of alcohol, molasses, raisins, and brown sugar, how come you taste so good. The aftertaste is somewhat sweet and warming. Thanks JohnC for the hookup. on dis and Sassy for her immense generosity.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with red hues. Aroma is caramel, rye, fruit, hops, and chocolate. Mild roastiness with a nice warming sensation of etoh. Good brew.

[Bottle, thanks BDR!] Pours dark red with a tan head. Aroma is very nice--fruity, some hops, a lot of caramel malt. The taste is quite sweet and really malt dominant. A little bit of chocolate and nuttiness also show up and blend fairly well with the toasted malt. Very smooth with a long finish. A good beer, but the taste was just a little bit of a letdown. Still, I hope I can rerate it some time.

bottle shared thanks to zinister. Pours red with an off-white head. Typical red ale smell. Complex flavor. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonated with slight alcohol. I liked this more than the 2007 I had earlier, but was getting too intoxicated to take good notes.

My 500th rating. Pours with a largish, very tight and creamy, light brown head. Extremely dark and murky red to brown hue. Monster lacing, a ring as history of each sip. Aroma is pretty amazing with fruity elements (plums, pears and candied dates), malts, plenty of caramel, and spices. Taste is a a nice, strong, but clean caramel flavor with some fruity tang towards the finish and a nice level of alcohol warming. A really well crafted taste. No signs of aging or oxidation at all (been cellaring this beer since last summer). Extremely creamy smooth mouthfeel, with perfect levels of carbonation. A good choice for #500.

Bottle at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Amber with a strong tan head. The aroma has some carmelized malts, subdued/aged hops, and a papery oxidized suggestion. Fluffy/creamy body with a rich malt presence. Lots of caramel with little hop character left. A bit peppery and earthiness comes through to balance the earlier caramel sweetness. It aged pretty gracefully.

Rating #200 750ML Bottle Been saving this one for a while, and it lives up to the hype. Pours a nice hazy red with a large tan head. Aroma of malt, molasses, caramel, figs, chocolate, hops, dough, rasins, clove, brown sugar.......you name it it’s got it. This brew has a nice full body, sticky hops, fruits, chocolate, toffee, bread and caramel all come together in amazing balance. I feel un-worthy to rate this beer, so much is going on and there is no way my feeble palate can detect it all. That said, amazing brew.......another winner from alesmith. YUM!!!
