Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Bottle, thanks to hopdog. Thank you Steve! Pours a cloudy bronze with tan voluminous head and decent lacing. Nice hoppy aroma with a caramel backdrop. Taste is very smooth and creamy. Caramel and toffee on top of a subtle bitterness. Very drinkable.

Sample Hotshots Feb Indy tasting - Aroma is very malty, with lots of caramel followed by some citrus hop bitterness. Pours dried blood red with a medium head and good lacing. Flavor is mostly caramel with a nice hoppy finish. Palate is tar and sticky. I wish I would have had a fresh one, one for this tasting and another to age even longer. Would be interesting to compare. Tasty none the less.

Poured into a snifter. Huge tan head leaves massive lacing all the way down to the murky, reddish-brown body. Retention is incredible. Aroma is similar to winter Yulesmith, with fresh pineapple scents on top of huge candied maltiness. I noticed some grape too. Taste is, well, decadent. Rich caramel is the main flavor, with swirling notes of grapefruit and pine. Some lactic sugar and dark fruits here too. Body is as full as it gets. The carbonation and the hops are just enough to cut through the sweetness and create a surprisingly dry finish. A little too rich to be extremely drinkable, but the 10% is hidden well.

Bottle. #600! Pours a hazy deep ruby brown color with a smallish tan colored head. Aroma of huge sweet malts, dried dark fruits, brandy, caramel. Flavor is sweet caramle, toffee, dried cherries, raisins, alcohol, honey. Palate is full bodied, medium to mild carbonation, finished sweet and sticky. Great stuff!

Hazed, with a caramel sapphire color and a mossy tan growth on top for the head. Aroma lights up the room with prunes basking in caramel, rhubarb and bing cherries in brandy. A trace of pistachios impart a sweetened nut-like tune. Red currant and jojoba on rye keep the complexity of the nose going full force. Enormous full flavor takes its cues from the nose. Honeyed almonds get coated in rye flakes and dropped into a luxurious caramelized plum sauce. Chewy, wholesome mouthfeel with the best balanced carbonation equation known to man. Apple brandy joins a pistachio and honey graham composure for this earthen, nutty sweetness that can’t be trumped. Rustic rhubarb with bing cherry caramel glaze coats the now sugary sealed edge for harmonic combinations in the mouth. Balanced finish with hazelnuts, caramel vats and rye flakes leave the sensory organs in awe. An amazing feat for an ale. Huge thanks to tpkenned for the bottle!

Pours a dark caramel colored amber with off-white head. Sweet caramel malt, brown sugar, toffee, dark fruits, plum, and finishes with piney hops. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Excellent beer.
