Pours a red mahogany color with a fluffy reddish tan head. Beautiful lacing ringed my glass and lasted till the end. Aromas of fruit and candy are released when pouring. Flavors were many and complex. Caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, malts & hops are all in there. I thought it was a well balanced beer with neither malts or hops dominating. Pours a dark ruby color. Large, fluffy, khaki head. Aroma of biscuits and earthy malts. Flavor was sweet caramel with some metallic hints. Alcohol was well hidden. alexanderj (2247), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Bottle enjoyed in Atlanta; poured a darker reddish brown with a large and pretty active head. Aroma was heavy on the yeast, biscuit malt, with amped up notes of a normal red ale. The flavor was sweet and sugary, which some might not like. Alcohol was well hidden. Other flavors of caramel, toffee, and biscuit. Not quite a 4.0 beer for me. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2007 as with most Alesmith products this one looked absolutely perfect on the pour. color was a ruby/mahogany/reddish brown with an excellent huge tan head very slowly fading to lace which lasts the entire tasting. aroma was rich earthy malt with hints of pine and some citrus. flavor was very, very sweet with toffee, molasses and caramel with some bready notes and not much in the way of pine or citrus from the hops. mouth-feel was very full and the alcohol was well hidden. I always enjoy giving the Alesmith brews a try as they are always well made and interesting, but found this one too sweet for my palate. 750ml courtesy of Saarlander, thanks Aaron. Another winner from AleSmith, who can seem to do no wrong. It would be epic if they barrel aged some of this. Guess we’ll find out in a year or so. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Updated: Feb 9, 2008750ml bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown. But it is truly an imperial red. When first poured the head is less dense with moderately sized bubbles but as it sits and even while you drink it the bubbles become very fine and the head thickens and becomes dense and creamy. Smells malty and hoppy, with some cherry and caramel. Tastes very smooth, lots of malt, with some caramel and just the right amount of hops. Palte is smooth up front with some alcohol burn on the back of the tongue and in the throat. Although it packs quite a punch, I could drink this all night...On cask at the Alesmith Barrel-aged brew release party on 9/28/07. Pours a deep dark cloudy brown red color. More brown looking than out of the bottle. Big fluffy, off-white head that fades slowly and leaves lace on my clear plastic keg cup. Big sweet, rich malty nose to it. Very sweet and deep, deep brown sugary nose. Much more brown tasting rather than red tasting like it was out of the bottle. Deep malty sweet sugary flavors. Much less of the red berry, red beer type of sweetness. Mouthfeel is rather excellent. I wasn’t expecting this brew on cask to be this good. I was rather pleasantly surprised by the carbonation and the easy drinking. Way more drinkable than it was out of the bottle. Skyview (4045), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Pours a hazy reddish brown amber brew with a creamy light tan head that has excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, brown sugar, a touch of bourbon character, graham crackers, and a touch of citrus zest. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of dark roasted caramel malt, candi sugar, a touch of bourbon character, toffee and plenty of alcohol. Finish is smooth, creamy with a nice alcohol warmth with a toffee aftertaste. Most excellent. shp555 (1681), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
